and a warm to the forum from Dundee Great to have you onboard and look forward to hearing about yourself and your modelling adventures so far. Sit back with a beverage of choice and dive right in. Once again welcome to the forum Paul
Thanks for the welcome, gents. I've been modelling, on & off, for some 50 years now - with a big pause whilst raising a family. My first love was the Midland, specifically pre-1907. I built "Malham" in 4mm, originally in 1979-80, and subsequently rebuilt in the early Noughties. It did a few shows over the years, but ultimately the baseboards, by this time 35+ years old, started to fail, so the poor old thing has retired. A huge change in personal circumstances in 2008-9 led me to become very interested in the NER, & specifically the Scarborough & Whitby line. I intended to build a model of Scalby, again in 4mm, with a view to building or acquiring examples of every type of locomotive & rolling stock that ran on the line, from contractors' workings to the notorious "Scrappies' Special" of 1967, & this is going well. However, a chance message in late 2019, offering me the opportunity to buy the model originally built by the Scarborough MRC, was too good an opportunity to turn down. I have recently managed to finally put it up for a test session, and to my delight it ran well. A credit to the original builders. The plan is to get it back onto the exhibition circuit, ably assisted by some good friends. I'll do a thread on it in due course, if anyone is interested. I do prefer to build my own track, pointwork, locomotives & rolling stock, either from kits or from scratch. However, some modern RTR are just superb, so can act as stopgaps until I can build my own. I've run clubs & exhibitions in the past, so understand the joys and frustrations involved. Work? I'm a ships' Engineer, so can usually do some modelling in my free time whilst on board my ship. Mark
G'day Mark, Welcome aboard from a soggy Sydney. Looking forward to see what you have on the bench or on the go ! Cheers, Gary.
G`day Mark, Welcome to Platform 1 MRC Your name seems familiar from somewhere..... I hope you enjoy your journey with us Gormo
Thanks all. I would have replied earlier, but I'm away at sea at present, and for some reason if I'm out of roaming 4G range & am using the ship's Internet, I can't access the forum. I get a "Your IP address has been banned" message flagging up...
Hi Mark Checked the IP's and unblocked them, being at sea explains the fast change in location. Hopefully all is ok now. Paul
Hi Paul All done at 12.5 - 13.5 knots! It seems to be working via ship system at present - see what happens when we go on the satellite again! Cheers Mark
