Oh dear. It would have been cheaper to buy a new fridge, or hire a ute to move that one. But you've got to give the guy points for initiative!
In the good old days everything went via rail I even remember parcels vans on the back of the U boat interurban Electric trains that went from Sydney to Gosford.

Paul, Very good. I don't know if German Uboats made it this far south. I know the Japanese were sinking ships off the east coast during WW2. Cameron
They were talking about this on the radio yesterday and the guest 'expert' mentioned that the legislation states that you can only carry with you, what can fit on your lap or fits in the baggage/parcel shelf above your seat... Cheers, Gary.
Hello All, yes , German U Boats did operate off the Australian coast in WW2 , see (german-u-boat-operations-australian-waters ) for more details. And the German raider Kormoran and HMAS Sydney clashed off the WA coast, with both being sunk as a result. Regards, Echidna
The thing is though........if that guy with the fridge, had have shown the security guys the beer he had in the fridge, they would have helped him get it on the train and also they would have arranged help for him at his destination. The code of ethics in Oz is pretty firm around beer, and certain situations can be tolerated to ensure that a bloke`s beer doesn`t get cold. It`s a shame he didn`t think to show them....he could have spent the fine on more beer and had a party with the security guys. Gormo
The NSWGR stainless steel single deck electric interurbans were classified as U sets, hence the common reference to them as 'U boats. Yes, cold beer offered should get around many logistical issues :>) cheers Bob
