Ian If that app doesnt work try the zinio app. Although that might only be available through the australian itunes store not sure about anywhere else. Cameron
cheers Cameron, I'ts on my 'Pocketmags' account the same as my BRM but their link to Paypal doesn't work and I'm not giving them my card details for this annual automatic renewal. When I've tried Model Rail site they divert you to 'Great Magazines' and they want your home address etc even if you 'gift' it and this is for Digital?? I can understand email obviously but address? methinks they want to sell it on and the tick boxes for opting out are deliberately mixed up some you tick others you un-tick .. sneaky so probably won't bother ..rant over wheres mi tinto!
I must admit that I have not renewed my subscriptions to any magazine... Just been too busy... Cheers, Gary.
Never had a subscription to a model mag, but I always buy Railway Modeller as they seem to have all the exhibitions and toy and train fairs listed, Model Rail is a favorite, and MRJ when I can get it, none of my local news agents carry it so it means a trip into town which is once in a blue moon! Pete.
From my quick, rough and very unscientific results across two forums it’s pretty even between BRM, Model Rail and Railway Modeller[sup],[/sup] with just as many that get one of them not buying regularly or subscribing to any. I bought the latest issue of Model Rail mainly for the article on Operation Abyss and was considering getting the digital version as a subscription, but they appear to have had download problems this month. Of course, there is always Model Railway Express on the internet and I did find an index for Model Rail on the The UK Model Shop Directory, which is handy if your looking for articles on a particular subject. Back issues seem reasonably easy to obtain on that ‘Internet Auction Site’ Thanks again for all the replies. Ed
Ed, I`ve been getting the Railway Modeller out here in Oz because it`s considerably cheaper than the other British mags. Some time ago I was given 120 magazines, being a mixture of all the well known mags, and I`m still working my way through them, so I haven`t bought a new mag for quite some time. http://www.clickGormo
I used to get Model Railway constructor, but alas that went the way of the faires, and with the Modeller the drawings in 2mm, 3mm, 4mm and 7mm of wagons were a great reference, and you never know one day I may even put them to use. Paul
I'm newish to the hobby, apart from 50 years ago... Model Rail and the Hornby mag are the ones I buy every month Google/the internet is a great resource if you know what you are looking for. The paper mags often show you things you didn't know existed
Good luck with finding the time to read all those Mags Gormo The biggest problem with paper mags is finding somewhere to keep them, which inevitably results at some point in having a cull. The advantage is getting to read professionally photographed layout articles, which won't be available on the web due to copyright if nothing else. The digital versions will have the articles, but the picture quality will only be as good as the device your viewing them on. Still undecided about any subscription, perhaps I'll hang on for one of the subscription gift offers that come along from time to time. Ed
Well I finally got my digital version of Model Rail .. how did I do it? no idea but currently I can only get it on my phone not the laptop.. so working on that by opening a bottle of tinto Ian vt
Must admit I was a bit wary of what they list the digital version is viewable on Ian. Available to download on: Android devices [/*] Apple devices [/*] Doesn't mention Windows PCs , or indeed Linux Ed
If you subscribe to a mag via "Pocketmags", you can download their site to Android, PC and Mac formats and view on any of those devices. There's nothing like a full screen PC (or Mac) viewing rather than trying to read from a phone, or even an iPad. Keith.
Yes have to agree Ed, Fortunately I have a place to keep them. I found a discarded book case on the side of the road some time back. It`s in good nick, so I put some castors under it and I can wheel it about in the railway room if I need to. It normally resides under the turntable board. I have magazines going back to the 1980`s and it`s nice sometimes just to go through them again. You probably can`t do that online...????? http://www.clickGormo
They are DRM'd (digital Rights Managed) to the hilt to stop you printing them off Which reminds me something is wrong with my MR digital subscription as they want me to pay for the latest couple of magazines, which I have a subscription for I would prefer to be able to read them on the PC monitor or even the TV (providing SWMBO has gone to bed). Actually some TV's may be able to as they are Android compatible. Paul
I'm not that fussed about the digital mags, I tend to skim the mags and only read the articles that I can relate to, O gauge mostly, but I do save the projects and plans/drawings, I cut them out and file them, I used to have loads of Model Rail Constructor mags for the drawings, but I can't remember what I did with them . Pete.
Here is a free on line mag I was just advised about https://www.railwaymagazinemodelling.co.uk/read-on-line/
