One white metal furnace courtesy of Seba Developments arrived this morning. A major reshuffle in the shed required to accommodate this before starting to cast my own white metal components for Highlander Models.

I'll chuck a photo or two up later.

    Cheers

    and thats it for now.

I used to make my own fishing weights in a steel pan on the stove when I was young. I am guessing here, but I would find some sort of fire proof pot (maybe a ceramic plant pot) for dropping the scum in. Slag is just as hot and with a wooden floor, just dropping it on the patio in a panic may not be a good idea.:avatar:
It all looks jolly interesting, can't say I have ever considered it, but still makes for interesting reading.

I'll think of something for the slag. I am thi king of sitting the furnace on s concrete paving slab and having a further slab at ground level in front of the furnace just to catch any potential drips / spillage.

The area the furnace will sit in will be surrounded by heat resistant cement board as used on clues for fire places etc.

    Cheers

Ooh that looks a nice piece of kit Toto, you could even cook yourself half a roast chicken in it when you are not casting loco parts. :avatar:

Sounds like you need another one.

So after all this un-packing, how did the clear out progress ?

'suppose I'm still required in the morning for more construction work. I'll get the donuts

Clear out not done yet but won't take long. Glad you remembered the jam doughnuts as I'm just back from ASDA and forgot to pick them up. Got the bacon though. :avatar:

Mind empty your car as you could fall air to some goodies tomorrow if you want them.

    Cheers

Mind how you go with molten metal Toto,
Might pay to get yourself some safety gear to protect yourself from burns.

I'm doubting that you ever feel the cold again in your shed ! That furnace will certainly warm the shed in no time at all. I'm guessing you'll have the appropriate ventilation in there to exit any nasty fumes when melting and pouring/spinning ??

    Cheers, Gary.

Could these nasty fumes you talk of have a connection to warm air currents in confined spaces Gary? :avatar:

I think Methane is flammable folks,
So when you have a situation with red hot metal in a confined space and occasional injections of Methane into that air space, you have a recipe there for a potentially explosive situation, possibly with a tinge of curry and lager to it...???? :scratchchin:
