Yes I saw that too and at £299 it may well be better to put another £60 to the price and buy a new one from Scorpio which will probably be less frustrating to build.

yes you are correct. I should check Scorpio out. I haven't seen their catalogue for some time. A Britannia or 9f would possibly be more useful to me. having said that Rebuilt West countrys never ran in Lincolnshire.

Owen Glendower now has an identity, still all the lining to do and fit a motor gearbox then the valve motion can be fitted.

excellent and neat lining there. very impressed. I did something possibly a little silly. I notice that the seller of the Clan was open to offers. I made a low offer and with a little bartering was able to secure it for less than the original selling price. I am under no illusions and realise that the scorpio kit would be the better option but the price I paid takes into account the extra pain. I've seen far more of the Acorn Clan built to a decent standard than the west country i'm currently coaxing (no.... beating) into looking something like the original. It cant possibly be any more difficult to make... can it?

If you're anything like me Paul, it's the challenge that makes it worth taking on! A 'Spamcan' "West Country/Battle of Britain" is on my 'Wants' list too!

i do get a perverse pleasure out of making difficult kits. the class 37 i posted on another thread was one particular one. a bit of a pig to assemble but i really like it and will never part with it

Ah Paul only one loco worse in my opinion... get yourself an ACME Ivatt class 2 tank but make sure it is the prototype version and have a good blue marker ready to chop out all the bits that are wrong. :avatar::avatar::avatar:

Seriously I wondered if it was your good self who had done the deal, the tender should be no issue as my Brit tender is marked as Acorn but do watch for that 2mm short fall on the tank side wraps. I think the main issue with the original Brit was in the motion bracket assembly and the Ennis's decided to just redraw the etches for simplicity.

The BR1 tender makes up very well, as you can see that 2mm shortfall does give the effect of the tender parting away from the loco footplate, I've got round this with a folded draft curtain which is detachable.

thanks Kim... after I took that tender pic I was able to tease the lining on the top left back into alignment... in the pic it has a slight dip down. Camera shows all as they say.

Well I didn’t want to say anything, or point out the magnitude of your error, I think you should have another crack at this model, and try and get it right. Please forward this incorrect model on....:avatar::avatar:

I have only ever been defeated once. That was a 4mm scale Ivatt 4mt. The front frames, smokebox saddle and cylinders where all cast as one. Not a problem except the casting was so distorted you couldn't get the cylinders or boiler on straight. It turned out the mould was worn and any replacements would have been exactly the same.

Hopefully the kit will arrive today (although it will most likely arrive while im out). Im slightly puzzled by what looks like two front footplates on the etches in the photos on Ebay. Did the Britannia have two? Ive also found a legitimate use for the Clan. 72009 was loaned to the Eastern region in 1958 so I can point this out to anyone who questions why I have a Clan amongst my ex Great Eastern and Great Northern locos. How I explain the Bulleid I dont know.

It's poor eyesight with me these day Kim... I was so upset and distraught in making such fundamental lining mistake that in a mad fit of stress anxiety I pulverized the loco with a 15lb lump hammer ... I'm posting the bashed in bits for you to sort out and put right. :avatar::avatar::avatar:

Loco exchange trials. Could even run it with a local tender.

Not sure about two forward footplates Paul, the Brit has the option to include the platform modification under the smokebox door area. The footplate is generally one complete folding etch with the side valances forming the front angle profile, interesting indeed if you could post up pics of the eches when you have time of course.

Talking of Ivatt 2 locos, the other night I saw a picture of somebodies Ivatt 2MT tender engine and that too had the wrong dimension smokebox door... same issue I had which made it look more like a Riddles Class 3 tank.

The courier attempted delivery during a short period where i was out (rather predictably) so i dont have it yet. The photos of the etches on the listing werent great but i can see what looks like two footplates peaking through. when i get my hands on it i will post some photos. I am not 100% sure where the parcel is as i received a text from UPS saying that they had dropped it at my local corner shop for pickup due to me not being in. When i popped in this morning they didnt have the parcel. After checking the tracking it apears its gone back to the ups depot 100miles away and due for redelivery today. i had a similar experience with DPD a couple of months ago and only just received my parcel 2 months late.

Yep... sounds bar for the course with certain couriers although in fairness our UPS driver is always very consistent with his round, I've had stuff redirected to our local farm shop for collection and they know me there anyway. The one to watch is Hermes and if I see sellers offering that delivery option I refuse to make purchase unless they change to a better service which I specify, sounds arrogant but not really since I've had way too much arrive either late, damaged or even lost and for a fact this courier have in the past said they attempted delivery when in fact they hadn't. The problem is some of these ebay sellers think they are offering an attractive deal using the cheap delivery option.

I guess a lot comes down to your local driver and also the driver at the other end. I seem to have no end of trouble with UPS and DPD but Hermes have been great.
He had the kit listed as postage by royal Mail and only charged £6 which was very optimistic for a heavy kit. Im guessing he got a cheaper quote from DPD but it has confused the tracking on Ebay. No sign of the kit today its last scan was a destination scan at 3:45am, which apparently means its at the DPD depot

I even saw a photo the other day of a Bullied 4-6-2 in Nottingham Victoria - it had brought in a rail tour.

Just picked up an email sent this evening from ABC Gears apologizing for any delay and stating the gearbox and motor unit will be dispatched later this week... now the thing is I haven't paid for it yet, so I'll respond thanking them in the morning informing them when their money has been transferred. So 70010 will soon have a decent powered motor and we all respect a firm business deal which means business. Good on you ABC and here's to more orders in the future.:tophat:
