I have you to thank for that because it really was well worth the effort, probably not the tidiest job but a bit more cleaning and some stopper once primer is on and i think it will pass muster... just. :avatar:

Thank you Sir T your comment is truly appreciated, this is a lovely kit to build, a builder can take it to whichever level of finish they wish and the loco will still look great. If you do ever go down the 7mm brass kit building route I cannot recommend Jim's starter kits highly enough to cut your teeth on Mark. You simply cannot go wrong.

It’s these “small “ things that make a real difference to the look of the loco, great work Paul

Yes it is Kim and thanks for the kind comment... I've put the basis loco build on the scenic diorama with a few vans behind and do does look convincing. I'll pop a picture up to show as the light is about correct right now.

Not sure if I will go your way or try a 3D printed quadrant ring, as I haven't fitted the mid boiler band yet, I could solder the boiler to the smoke box then slide the ring into place.

    We'll see.

The light seems a little better today so before lunch I took a couple of pictures to emphasis how the scratch made smokebox joint ring looks, I like the idea that t'other Paul proposes a resin print one... a much easier way forward to achieve the same result. The cab roof is just balancing on the loco for fun... we are no where near that stage of the build yet.

And this is the view that the thrushes and starlings would see if this was a full size loco... pictures today are all for fun really and in the spirit of Platform 1.

Thanks Pete, I'll try and get started on the splashers and forward footplate today but we have family over and a very demanding three year old girl has discovered the joys of getting drenched with the garden sprinkler I use to water the veggie plot.

Got the splashers fitted this afternoon, nothing difficult there as I just ensured the splasher faced had been turned up making a good set of right angles, next on was the firebox trim edging which I sweated into place and the trims around the splashers. Finally on went the frame spacers which hold the lubricators and the reverser rod. It was time then to tack fit the boiler and smokebox into position, no real issues in getting this assembly to line up correctly so I took the plunge and seamed the whole boiler unit onto the firebox and soldered the smokebox base onto the footplate. Tomorrow I'll add in the forward footplate and the valve cover along with a few other little details such as lamp brackets, vacuum pipe and the loco footsteps. Finally for today after a good scrub down to remove flux residue I took a portrait picture.

Strangely yes and the junction (just out of vision) has been rationalised prior to the lifting out of the Down line. :avatar:

Thanks Kim the plan is still to make further scenic segments which couple together, I have the components to do a short tunnel scene also, the next couple of scenic boards will be a station building and the plan is to link them all up in the garden on nice days.
