Nah, the paint don't taste too good, however the thinner smells ok, and could become an aquired taste - yeeuck. Paul
After much prodding...... My weapon of choice - not much of a choice really, it is a no name brush bundled with my compressor. I have fitted quick release fittings to the brush and braided hose The undercoat used is Humbrols #1 Acrylic Grey Primer, thinned 50:50 with Tamiya X-20A thinners The small cup is an ink cup for tattoo artists, I use it as a measuring cup. Well all 4 coaches primed and waiting to dry oh what video..... Link https://youtu.be/W8Dv37A7MQM Paul
Hi Paul, what a great video. I loved the music .......very Paul Daniels. A great atmosphere abut the whole video with gripping music. More importantly, the job in hand was made to look quite straight forward. No special technique required, just light coats added gradually and keep the airbrush moving. It looks like good coverage was achieved. As I said before, the hard bit is getting the consistency of the paint and thinners correct but you could see that the paint was looking solid enough. looking forward to part two. maybe a bit more complicated to get a good even finish. cheers toto
Cheers, treating Morag to a coffee out this afternoon, as Hobbycraft is just next door, I can just pop in and get Tamiya masking tape See the romance never wears off....... Paul
Enjoyed that Paul Thanks. PS That was not music ,that was Paul falling down the stairs with his toolbox.
Rudolph Valentino or what. Still, I'm sure that Morag will need masking tape for something ......... in various widths as well. you sure know how to treat a girl...... toto
I've got the souther region green one of these and I think it'll look good with the same kind of weathering. I'm told parcels stock was rarely cleaned, so it's hard to go wrong. Thanks for showing the way.
Cheers Guy's I have started applying the colour - the video will follow, but will have more than just spraying layer after layer of paint. I used Humbrol RC403 Crimson Lake (acrylic)- all the local hobbyshop had. After 4 (thin) coats it still looked pinkish, and not maroon, so I took what was left of the RC403 approx 1 ink cup full, and added 2 cups of Humbrol #20 gloss acrylic, and 3 cups of Tamiya X-20A thinner. Two further coats and it looks the part now. Lima MK1 BG Mailine Ex LMS 50ft BG Lima Ex GWR Siphon & CCT Next up mask up the body sides ready for the Grey roof, and black underframes. Paul
Hi Paul, Good result. Looks like a good solid covering from here. The colour itself looks fine. I'll look forward to the video. Hopefully it will give an idea as to the paint / thinners mixing quantities. That's something I've struggled with. Cheers Toto
Started masking .... 3mm strip along the roof line Then 6mm down each side Then pieces normal masking tape between strips. 1 down 4 to go ...... Paul
The roofs were painted with Tamiya Acrylic XF-24 Dark Grey, thinned 50:50 with Tamiya X-20A acrylic thinner. 2 coats was enough From the top Mainline 50ft BG, Mainline 50ft BG, Lima Siphon G, Lima CCT roof Another 24 hour wait, then the black. Paul
That top image shows a nice even coat Paul. There is a bit of a shadow cast on the bottom one but the paint will probably be fine. A job well done. Looking forward to the ends getting done. Cheers Toto
Black sprayed on the ends and chassis The fashion parade can begin The CCT - one axel missing hence the slight angle The Siphon G The Mainline 50ft BG The lima Mk1 BG Gloss varnish next to allow the transfers to be applied - must find the transfers, especially as Hattons and Gaugemaster are out of stock. Then the flush glazing - another first for me. Then weathering, which is where this thread started. Paul
The paint jobs are good Paul. looking forward to the weathering and detailing. No rest for the wicked.
