I won a couple of etched brass mk1 coaches on eBay. Described as the best that you can get. I took a punt on it and won. don't have a clue who made them and a bit vague as to what's included. I will say that I won them at £127.00 for the pair. Let's wait and see what I get. I've either won a watch or I have another two dogs in the household .......... Ruff ... Ruff.
I did see these myself Toto but didn't realise it might be of interest to you! No problem though, if you won them anyway. I've just started on a DC kits 4 CEP 4 car unit (to be posted on soon), and saw another of these, with a 2 car unit on Ebay. These had the add-on bits and three motor bogies, probably total cost about £250-ish, but the last time I looked, bidders had driven the price up to a massive £513!!!!! Crackers! Keith.
Started looking at RRP myself now, as well as the price the box shifters are passing them on at, and make sure I don't let the excitement get the better of me. I was watching them as well, probably a little too modern for me but they looked good. Paul
Were you talking about era there ...... I never let that worry me ...... Or geographical location for that matter ........ Just in case you have not noticed. if it looks good ..... I'll find a purpose for it. ..... It's all part of the thingy ma Bob.
Me too Toto.... If I like it......I run it.....regardless of era, class, location, railway company. Rule 1 invoked at all times, plus if you class your railway as a heritage railway, you can run whatever you like...... http://www.clickGormo
Thank you kind Sir. My railway is a right old mix of everything but I' m happy. It's the belonging and participation that counts.......well ..... To me anyway.
Toto wrote: Or will that be you in the dog house....?? Yep, I agree on run what you want. I now have the United Australian States of Britain in my railway room... Cheers, Gary.
Toto wrote: If they are described as the best you can get then they ought to be MMP Mark I's and if they are getting two for that price is a gift indeed.
I'll let you know when they arrive and get a piccie or two up Rob. that name rings a bell though. cheers toto
and here is the unknown ...... the destructions ....... and the main carriage body .... the roof is separate and the sides just fold up ........ and another of the same ......... and now the chassis and white metal fittings etc ........ and another of the same ........ and there we have it. it looks reasonably straight forward to build at first glance and they weigh a ton. very solid kits and there is two of them. so ...... there we have it ....... anybody seen or heard of these ? cheers toto
These seem really nice kits but they don't appear to come with the bogies. looks like I'll need to source two sets from somewhere. Still pretty impressed with the rest of the kit though. They have a very solid feel to them. Cheers Toto
Not seen these before Toto, they look like an aid to scratch building, you will probably have to source your own bits and bobs to complete them. As for bogies, Wayoh do some nice kits with white metal sides, no need to panic though, when I built mine I glued them on with 2 part epoxy. Those sides will need the tumblehomes rolling before folding up, easy enough with a rolling pin on a mouse pad. To get a good fold I would use a couple of lengths of angle iron clamped along the edge of the fold line so as not to get any wrinkles along the sides. Cheer's, Pete.
Ahhhhhhh ........ the tumble doofers are already rolled ....... not obvious from the pictures ....... but they are. phew ...... I'll check out the bogies that you suggested. ..... cheers ....
I have heard of these and I seem to recall that they used to advertise in the Gazette. I haven't any direct experience because Mark I's are too late for me and no one has asked me to build any for them so far. I think that the seller describing them as the best you can get was a bit misleading when you don't even get bogies but they were still a good price. Too late now perhaps but you can also get plastic Mark I bogies from Easy build.
and the photo's one set of two brass bogie etches ...... nice half etches for bending etc. I like that. and the white metal furniture with a bag of brass screws, nuts and washers etc. They look very straight forward. I may use more of these on the easybuild carriages I have to do away with the plastic. we'll see ...... maybe not. Now all I need to do is find out what kind of wheels are required and get them ordered up. cheers toto.
Hi Toto, Although I haven't used any myself to date I have only heard good reports on the Wayoh Bogies. If you can catch him at a show I can thoroughly recommend Haywood Railway coach wheels at £5 for a pair of axles with bearings they are good value and add eight low down where you need it. I caveat this with the fact that although he does mail order I have never manged to successfully get anything from him via mail order despite trying two or three times. Although other Guild members seem to have no problems. If you want to try I can post up contact details.
