I'm quite certain no-one will have one of these 'surplus to requirements', but I'm looking around for one. They were quite an expensive (and fragile) item new, and were, I believe, a limited edition. A number of retailers have this item listed, but when you enquire or click the 'buy' button, it comes up as 'out of stock', no surprise there! Hattons and the other big sellers don't have any, not even in the "Pre-owned" category, and the only supplier I can find that does list one as being 'in stock' is "Olivia's Trains" at £120, a bit much in my estimation, even for new! I've got a card version, but am trying to upgrade my buildings and don't think I'm up to the job of scratchbuilding one, so if any member knows of this Bachmann Scenecraft model going secondhand anywhere, please let me know.

    Hi Keith,

You are right on a few points there. First, a heavy price to pay although they are a nice piece. They are also very fragile.

I have one which I bought at the Glasgow exhibition and when I got it home and opened the box, two parts were broken. Luckily they can easily be superglued back together and it will be completely un- noticeable.

I bought it for the original track plan for the R & GLR along with the ash pit.

I think I am safe in saying they will not be used but not quite sure yet. To be decided. The problem would be posting them. It appears that many retailers would only sell them as to be " picked up from the shop " for this very reason.

I'll have a think on what I intend to do with mine and dig out the boxes and check them out. If I decide to possibly sell, I'll take a few pictures and post them up showing all and any damage.

It may be worth paying £120.00 from Olivia's if you want an absolutely pristine version. ( if they have that )

As I said, I've not really made up my mind as although they probably won't see the light if day on the R & GLR, I could maybe use them on a diorama or plank. Leave it with me.

    Cheers

    Toto

    Hi Tom.
I've just ordered the Bachmann "Ash plant tower" from Hattons the other day, RRP of around £70+, £47 from them so looking forward to that arriving. Olivia's is about 15 miles from me so I could collect a coaling tower easily enough, it's just the price that I baulk at! If you did decide to part with yours, I'd happily take it off your hands,- collection might not be too much of a problem, as I'm heading up to Relugas village near Inverness in May for a week, so could divert to collect if you did decide to part with it. Plenty of time to think about it before then, but put my name on it first if you do decide to sell. What puzzles me about these items though is, they ship them from China without damage, but we can't trust the UK carriers to get them to us in one piece! Can't work that one out!
    Keith.

    Hi Keith,

No problem. The ash plant is considerably smaller probably explains the difference in price. They are made of a very brittle ceramic like material.

I'll let you know what I decide.

    Cheers
