Not sure if these help? Found in the last 2 hrs walking round Haworth.

    Andy,

The bottom two diagrams on posting 170 show you how to create a hollow lamp post.

Ha! If I had any idea what you were doing…

I think I need to go back to basics.. YouTube tutorials are not for me. (Especially when they are the older version of 360 and look nothing like what they are now - I have no idea why I don’t get that spider in the middle of the screen (I remember I may have switched it off at some point as didn’t know what half of it was and didn’t need it.)

not sure when I’ll get to have a play myself.

Did you have a good trip to Howarth? I used to work 5 miles away so a trip over during my lunch hour was done quite often.

Yes. Bar a few road closures on the last few miles in, yes. Went for lunch at side of the pharm.. chem… a cafe next to a shop which used to sell medicine at the top of the hill near the sweet shop and church. Sadly few of the shops have gone such as the antiques one at the bottom of the hill. So we had 30 mins on the park with the kids.

oh, and some trains at the bottom (to
    Bring us back on topic)

Well I think that I have cracked the top of the post but the I need to tweak the cuts outs in the bottom because although they look to be removing material it doesn't show up when viewing the body or on a quick stl file export.

Not really knowing any dimensions for the lamp standard I estimated 10 feet to the top of the post itself and then scaled that to 7mm.

Very impressive Rob.. I’m not sure if there are not too many flutes on the upright. Some of the other ones I’ve seen appear to be a larger flute and either or a smaller one or it may be recessed.. can’t make by mind up.

see pic 3 of post #181
I will have to see what I can come up with myself.
    Regards

    Hi Andy,

I didn't even try to get the right number of flutes on the upright. Because I didn't have any dimensions, it was all guess work to see if, what I thought might work from reading your initial post, would work in reality. I am pleased to say that with a little tweaking the base element worked and was quite easy with the exception that I go my outer circle slightly too small and it took me ages to work out what the problem was. (all will be revealed in the next post when I describe how I did it). For the upper fluted bit of the post, I initially thought of doing a tapered 'cog' type extrusion but couldn't see how I would get the curves out towards the bottom. The answer came to me as I was working on the cut outs for the base.

Regarding large flute + small flute, it's possible (I think) but you have to ask yourself how much is actually going to be visible in 7mm or even less in 4mm versus what I suspect will be considerably extra work to draw it up.

Right then, how I did it.

First I downloaded Andy's drawing and imported it into Fusion on the front plane. Then as I said previously, but repeated here for completeness. Because the drawing had no dimensions, I best guessed that the main part of the post would be around 10 feet tall. I was way out as it's only around 6ft when taken right to the ground.

However using the 10ft as the basis, I created my self a User parameter of 1ft/7mm which allowed me to quickly scale the drawing to 7mm to the foot.

Next I did pretty much as Mossy had done in his test example and drew a profile of the lamp base and revolved it.
    upload_2022-8-11_10-18-15.png
Then I worked out the middle of the column height wise and created an offset plane.
    upload_2022-8-11_10-19-34.png
Then I created a sketch on that offset plane and drew the shape for my cut out
    upload_2022-8-11_10-21-37.png
I nloy drew one of the shapes then used the 'create circular pattern' tool to create the other five. As it tuned out initially I had the outer circle slightly under the column sized so when I extruded as a cut it was actually inside the body.
I then extruded using the symmetrical function and cut command so I was going both up and down to get the cut outs in place all around the column.

Next I drew a couple of upright lines on the first sketch to determine the width of the base of the fluted section. Which was 8mm on my overscale drawing. Then I created another offset plane this time at the top of the column/base of the fluted section.
    upload_2022-8-11_10-28-55.png

Then I created a sketch on that plane and drew a circle 8mm in diameter on the edge of that circle I drew another circle 0.6mm in diameter using these as a best guess for the size of the flute. I then used the circular pattern tool to create circle all around the inner circle. this ended up being 42.
    upload_2022-8-11_10-31-31.png

Then on the first sketch I drew the profile of the flute.
upload_2022-8-11_10-35-5.png I extruded this again symmetrically 0.3mm either way, to give me the 0.6mm thickness that I had determined (best guess!!!) was the flute size. Then I filleted the front edges to give me the round flute
    upload_2022-8-11_10-38-15.png upload_2022-8-11_10-38-48.png
Lastly I used the circular pattern tool again to create the circle of 42.

I even managed to get the render tool to work this morning last night I think that my machine was doing an update in the background and it was running like a dog.

    Hi Andy,

It probably took as long to write it up this morning as it did to actually draw it last night but I thoroughly enjoyed it and now that I have the dimensions I will have a go at drawing a proper 7mm version because the very top section is also a bit of a challenge.

    Rob.

I've never used the create circular pattern tool, that's a new one to experiment with. It wont take long Andy, it's just a bit of practice with the create circular pattern then off you go. I reckon having seen Rob's solution I could re-create it in an hour or so including getting used to pattern tool but I'm not sure I could have dreamed up the solution in the first place. :scratchchin:

Just shows how much more I have to learn  :scratchchin: :avatar:

For the full lamp, may I suggest the risers being made of Brass or copper rod - threaded through the fixtures and fittings, this would allow the power to be fed up to an LED for working lights.

    Beautiful work.

Andy, have a go at something a little simpler, I'm now at the point where Fusion 360 is my choice for more complicated models, especially if I need to modify it in the future (usually because I got it wrong or carried out an action too early). Getting my head round the sketch function was the breakthrough for me, something I never used in 123D.

123D I still use but generally for simpler objects that I can create from primatives - I know I fit right in with the primatives :whatever:

OK, obviously hiding in plain site but where is the create circular pattern tool?
