This kit arrived today. As usual photo's will go up later. I must admit, first impressions on opening the box was that these are the Rolls Royce of kits. Beautiful etches and what I can see is that there is a pretty good element of tab and slot construction going on here. Should help in the build process and leave the builder to concentrate on trying to keep things square. I'd say probably one of the best kits I've seen so far by far. Cheers Toto
Without wishing to denigrate David's kit's in any way you should see the MOK and Finney offerings....
I'm sure that's just a matter of time. The thing that put me off the Finney kits that Ellis had was that they had been started. I'm sure he'll be acquiring more as time goes on. The MOK kits I'm not quite so familiar with but will keep an eye open for them. Do they usually stick to any particulars lines ? Cheers Toto
Ahh I had a cunning plan to mitigate the risk of the Finney tender being started. About 4 weeks ago I bought an untouched kit from the GOG sales section for a Finney GNR coal rail tender (at a £60 saving on new) so I knew that if the build of the one that Ellis had on offer was naff (it isn't as it happens) I could always finish it and sell it on and use the untouched kit for my own use while still saving on a new loco. Now I need to decide what to do with the extra tender ultimately MOK stands for Modern Outline Kits - Here he has examples from all the grouping companies except the LNER and some BR standards too - right up your street in fact.
I remember many years ago a manufacturer of 7mm diesel kits whos name escapes me, that had the line on the packaging, "any resemblance to the real thing when built is purely accidental" or some thing similar. I wonder how many people bought them as a challenge! And how many unbuilt ones are out there waiting for the unwary! Pete.
Some photos ..... the destructions and other written information bags of castings etc ..... wheels included ......... The loco chassis etches ...... body etches ........ and the last of the etched part frets....... a really nice looking kit. cheers toto
