Hi, I started building a small portable freelance industrial layout Called Essex Brick. It's based on a brick works/storage facilities and serviced by rail, road and canal. All buildings will be 3D printed and are all based on how I remember buildings from my youth travelling into London on the Fenchurch line where all the buildings were dirty and well worn. Everything will be covered with plaster to represent concrete and cobbles. Track is flexi track with 3D printed turnouts and turntables. Underneath is another track with locos pulling canal boats around and through the layout. Locos and waggons are freelance, I have googled industrial locos and critters (USA small locos) and all are different, so anything goes. It is controlled by an Arduino Dcc++ and uses JMRI and CMRI Arduino Nodes.
Hi Eddy, I have just started viewing your layout videos, I must say IMO it is innovative, as a fan of industrial modelling, as can be seen in my cement works series of posts it really appeals to me. The idea of canal boats moved by an 'underground' railway' intrigues, and the whole project reminds me I really must fire up my 3D printer in earnest, as other members know I just can't seem to get to grips with the software tools despite my software and electronics background . I'll be back to watch another episode later. Jim
Thanks, for the nice comments. When I started this layout I did look around for something that not many people were modelling and this just evolved. I must admit I am not much of a planner/thinker, I am more, that sounds like a plan and get on with it. Canal boats running next after I have resigned my control box. Eddy
Finally got round to making a video of a prototype canal boat moving on my layout. I am nearly happy with the way it runs; I think it just needs a final tweak. Magnet size plays a big role so does the amount of weight needed to dampen the ride. Any suggestions to smooth the ride, much appreciated. If I have not tried them, I will give them a go. Proper boats and loads to design and print next, easy job as I know what I am doing (hopefully). Eddy
Hi its strikes me that some of the jerkiness is the two front wheels fighting each other on the corner and jumping sideways, are they on the same axle? May be better to just have a pad or maybe a single central wheel, but then that may cause the front to wobble? Jim
Sorting out some cranes I printed ages ago. I have finally found a home for them on my layout. Elegoo Mars2 and Ender 3. 00 Gauge.
I have made a few December update videos. YouTube link below. Thanks very much if you enjoy and like them. Back to some more modelling. Cheers Eddy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Lx_IgLReBU&list=PL2Mz1GBib5AtJIPPUJ_ULVJ_wIw74R0yn
Mk2 printed and primed, still needs some tweaking. I think I will keep it this colour and it saves time messing with the air brush. 190mm long, 150mm high, designed in SketchUp, printed on a Mars2. 00 scale. Still needs glazing and all the chains/rope bits. Eddy
