Been looking around at water tower kits then at old photos and eventually decided I would try a scratch build of my own design..... Parts cut from plasticard and plastistrut - Watertank build- Concrete legs- Tadah- Paint shop next and final details to add...
Andy for your first scratch build you are doing a great job. Looking forward to seeing more of your build.
very clean cut parts .... where did you get your dimensions ? you've made a lovely job of this. looking forward to the next installation. toto
Plucked out of my head... The height of the concrete legs is 20 feet and the tank is 16x16x5 foot. Looks about right to my eye. Calculating the volume of water gives a weight of 36 Tonnes! Thanks, paint shop tomorrow..
sounds fair enough to me. It looks right .... thats why I asked. i thought ..... text book stuff. excellent. toto
Thank you. The colour is actually a base of light grey mixed in the airbrush with a second lighter spray with a touch of green. Going to try some rust wash on the tank. The support legs will hopefully look the part once it is on the layout and finished.
Excellent first scratch build Andrew ! The water tower looks the biz indeed. It just shows how effective something can be made to look from just simple shapes being put together.
Nice build Andrew. Got to love plasticard/styrene. I have used tons of the stuff for scratch building over the years. For anyone else wishing to model in plasticard, I highly recommend the great video/dvd (now out of production), 'Building Buildings with Geoff Taylor'. It's from the old Right Track collection of model railway dvds and well worth a look if you can get hold of a copy. Cheers, Gary.
Just googled Geoff Taylors dvd, Amazon want over £30, Dcc concepts have it at £15.99.................
Well then, I won't tell you that I purchased my videos for under £10.00.... Oops, just did.... Cheers, Gary.
