I started this build on my Wheeldon Mill thread but I think as it is becoming more involved it will probably be better with its own thread.

It started life as a Pringles type crisp (chip) tube,

I tried to make my own top but I struggled to make the cone so I cut down an old funnel and have started to cover it in rivet embossed plasticard,

the only problem I have found is the contact glue I used affected the plasticard, hopefully it wo,nt be too noticable,
I have clad the out side of the tube in the same way and it looks ok,

I made the girder frame work from Evergreen material the decks are layered card with Slaters chequer plate on,

At the base I have made a brick surround its got a 3 layer foam board core covered in Slaters flemish bond brick, I have painted the brick work then given it a wash with thinned down light grey acrylic,

I have made and painted the front of the brick surround but it is a separate part that will go in once the smelter is assembled.

That is it for now, I will take some more pics of the base and outlet channel next time, I have got some LED,s to go in but I am going to try and fit them in such a way that it appears iron is flowing.

    Cheers, Pete.

    Hi Pete,

Looking forward to the rest of this. Looks like it's going to be a great build.

A bit more progress, I have glued up the cone covering and painted it and the chimney and weathered them, using some powders as well. You can see where the contact adhesive has wrinkled the thin plasticard covering.

I have made the channel for the iron to run out when the furnace is tapped, it isn,t fixed yet as I want to fit some led,s in it to simulate hot iron.

That,s it for now, I have got a little further but I will post more later.

    Cheers, Pete.
