Track laying 95% complete, another ...... and the last one for now ......... I have one more soldered joint to do where it crosses the baseboards on the good shed line to the rear. I may just do it now to finish it of. Then there is another maybe four sets of track feeds to go in. Next job ....... run the track BUS, fir the two UTP's, fit the Cobalts and switch 8 and connect up and get the polarity for the points synchronising correctly. We are moving now. Soon be running trains. cheers toto
So ..... did you get anything done then, or were you just too busy looking at your new kit No slacking now, you've set the target of trains running this weekend - and we want video evidence
Done a couple of track feeds but not much more. Things are still looking ok for having power to the rails. As usual, the hardest part will be sorting polarities and isolation joints out. I've left all the V rails with gaps on the turnouts. The outer rails have joiners. I may need to cut further isolation gaps yet. I might even put some King of insulation materials between the gaps in case of expansion. Hopefully prevent any shorts. Toto
Hurtling towards the weekend. Looking to get some major progress made. Through the week has been a bit of a washout. Reporting week at work so my heads been wiped out. All going well a sharp finish tomorrow. Toto
Colour coding Toto........yes the old colour coding trick........works every time by golly...... Gormo
Colour what ...... all mine are just white ..... unless they've been caught by the soldering iron. Back in the shed tonight and I have soldered on the rest of the track feeds. Now I have one more soldering job to do on one of the tracks between baseboard joints. That's next. After that its 2 UTP's to cut out holes for and then we are on to the track BUS and soldering the track feeds to the BUS under the baseboard. I'll take them apart for that. Must go ..... things to do. Might get some photo's up later. cheers toto
Ok. The last of the track joints over the baseboard sections is done. A little tidying up in general and the two UTP's fitted, one either end of the baseboards. a general shot of the finished track work ......... and the UTP's ......... and ....... I'll do a little prep work for whats to come tomorrow. Look out the 2.5mm twin and earth for the track BUS and also look out the appropriate cable crimps to accommodate the cable joints between baseboards. I'll also be needing my Circuit Breaker and a switch 8 to wire in with the points and the main BUS cable. Better go find them all. cheers toto
and tomorrows victims ....... cable crimp connections ......... circuit breaker ........ and a switch 8 ........ all ready to rock for tomorrows shift. power before long .... cheers toto
I had ran out of decent brass screws to solder the track down to on the baseboard joins so used another kind. They are not as good. They were only used on two joints but I think I will buy more decent screws and swap the others out. I can sense that they will come back and bite me at a later date. I'll try and pick some up tomorrow. Cheers Toto
I have ticked 'like' because I do, I but I have to confess that I haven't the foggiest what a 'UTP' or 'Switch 8' is......
Hi Rob, The UTP is just the connection plug in to plug your controller into. It gets connected via a plug in cable ( in the rear ) back to the main control system. You can have as many as you like and it means that you can unplug your controller and move to a different location on the layout to operate. The switch 8 allows you to connect 8 turn outs which are each allocated a code which you pump into your handset to fire the turnouts. It's really just a big decoder really. Cheers Toto
Hi Rob The UTP (Universal Track Panel) is the NCE standard face panel, with Two outlets on the front for controllers and two on the rear for daisey chaining the control or in NCE speak the Cab Bus. The other type of NCE panel is the PCP panel, used by the PowerCab handset, like the UTP has two controller outlets on the front but on the rear has one cab bus outlet, plus a Track bus outlet. As the PowerCab acts as a controller and command station in one unit. Toto, are you going to install a ventilation hole in the middle of this Switch 8 like you did on the last one Paul
Didn't plan to but you never know. I'll be hitting the shed shortly. I'll be starting with the track BUS etc. The replacement brass screws will have to wait until tomorrow. I'll be visiting tool station to buy them. I'll post up a picture or two later. Cheers Toto
Well, finally made it to the shed and started on baseboard one ........ here is the task ..... make sense out of that lot. and I did and started by tidying the BUS droppers and tying them into place ...... Then cut into the main track BUS , strip the droppers and wrap around the main BUS. a bit closer ...... and a wider view of the whole thing ..... Now ..... its ready for soldering up and attaching the crimps to the ends of the main BUS to provide interconnections between baseboards. Back soon toto
Soldering is done ( pictures later ) now on to baseboard number two ....... play it again Sam. cheers for now toto
