Some time ago, I built the LK55 turntable kit from Peco, motorising it with the "Locomotech" motorising kit, a simple but well thought out and made kit. I don't need an indexing system, as I can overlook my turntable (It's DCC controlled, so speed is variable), but the proprietor of Locomotech stated that he was developing an indexing system as an add-on kit. This morning, I had an email from him stating that he had now developed a system using a slotted disc and opto-electronics, and is asking for an 'expression of interest' to gauge how many components he will need to get custom made for the kit. He is expecting the kit to be priced in the region of £25-£30, so hardly expensive, especially when compared to the alternative systems on the market. I have NO connection with Locomotech, except as a satisfied customer, but just though I'd post this information up on the forum in case it's of interest to any other members.

Come on then Keith where's the photos, you can't dangle a teaser like thatt and not follow through - maybe I should re-phrase that, but you all know what I mean.

I have the same Peco turntable kit for a future project, and had thought of using a stepper motor to control it so would be interested to see a more traditional approach.

yes more details and pictures please. There's a MPD layout been built by our local club and a turntable that is indexed is required.Kim

I can't give any more details on the indexing system, as I only had the email informing me, and as it's not of interest to me, I haven't enquired further, but if you go to http://www.locomotech.co.uk there may be information on the website. I'll take a pic or two of my turntable underside to show the motorised setup when I have time, and post so you can see how simple it is (The guy is a professional Engineer).I recall the motorising kit was a little over £20, so you could have a full motorised indexing turntable for a little over £50 plus the LK55. That's a lot cheaper than Heljan or similar offerings!

I've managed to take a pic of the turntable underside, showing the motor/gearbox mounting and the torque arms. I can't get any closer as there's a cupboard less than 6" below the turntable, and I'm too big to get in! It's advised that the motorising kit is fitted as part of assembling the turntable kit, although it is possible to do a retro-fit. Hope this helps understand how it all goes together.
