the kit from Mercian model seems very good value at £210 - my only gripe is the white metal fittings need loads of cleaning - --motor and gear box 40/1 - are in that price -- but not Slaters wheels will let you know how the build goes - I have now also got the ply for the baseboards - and waiting for the double slips to arrive - so much to do - anyone got a spare after noon HA Ha - sorry if the pictures are not in order still getting used to up loading -- regards Dave

Those coaches are very impressive, took a look at Mercians industrial loco's, the boss has just confiscated my credit card as a precautionary step :whatever:

HI Paul , I have over done it this month - so easy to phone up give the numbers - and ha presto it arrives - - then reality at the end of the month-- I must ease off,- stop /// and recoup---- the Mercian kit etch are great rivet detail etched in ( half way ) beading looks a bit of a bi-ch - also the smoke box door (white metal ) my be ???-- brake gear , couplings lots of other fittings lost wax --- also enough etch to build a full cab including sides , the coaches are very nice easy to take the roof off to put lighting and people in - if I had someone elses credit card - I would have also had the GWR choc / cream - as well - HaHA -- I am stuck at the moment - to make the first base board until the d/slip arrives - I am hoping to be able to get the drawing (plan ) into 14 ftx3" but I do have 30" to a max of 3ft width so we shall see -- Paul do you use any type of underlay ?? just to give the shoulder look - or lay straight to the ply ??? nice to chat regards Dave

    Hi Dave

For my OO layout I've used 5mm thick foam insulation.

However I'm tempted to try the Woodland Scenics track underlay.

    http://www.hattons.co.uk/stocklist/1000484/1000590/1000678/0/Woodland_Scenics_O_Gauge_1_43_Scale_Track_underlay/prodlist.aspx

The box of 12 with the current discount Hattons are offering makes them cheaper than the bulk box of 36.

I'm also tempted to try using 50mm pink insulation foam for the baseboards, with a ply edging, and before Toto says anything - not before I've finished the traversers. :avatar:

Hi again - I have looked at the poly foam ??( green stuff) used under laminate flooring - but do not know if it would degrade over time - not worried about the noise -as I may be in the work shop - or loft - but I like the look of the hard shoulder -- also I have a question -- - do most run from the station /layout in to fiddle yard ?? --- fiddle yard 5-6 ft ?? half of another station later --Ha Ha -- end to end - or just plain greedy -regards Dave
