Looks another decent kit from Steve Beattie so it's in the collection. Better order up a shed load of BRGreen paint then. Toto
This you getting in quick before the end of year so the New Years resolution of not buying any loco's may last until Feb (Glasgow Show). I did notice that Heljan no longer appear at Glasgow since you haggled with the salesman. Paul
They can stay clear as far as I am concerned. They are offering nothing of interest. Glasgow will just be for the crack, the beer and the chipper. Now Telford ....... A different story. If I can, I will be amassing plenty of loco tokens for that. It's like wonka's chocolate factory ........ And I'll be taking a golden ticket. hey ........ You can be grandpa joe.
Exactly when is Telford 2018 then??? I didn't go this year, mainly 'cos it's an "0" gauge show, but after Pete, Ron, Paul and Toto all met up, I was left with the feeling I was missing out, even though I've absolutely no intention of going down the "0' gauge route, as (A) I'm far too heavily committed to "00" gauge, and )B)I've no space anyway, so before Paul says "I'm on the hook," no chance! I'll be going to the Doncaster show in February (as long as we're not snowed in!) which is "0" gauge also as far as I know, just for interests sake, plus hopefully meeting up for the 'crack', so I'll make the effort for Telford too, possibly instead of the GCR event (Loughborough) since I've done that one for the last 2 years, and they do say that a change is as good as a rest. Keith.
I'll check the dates Keith and post them up. It was a great meet up last year. Such a variety of stands where I believe you could get just about anything you are after. Even just to look. Then there is the beer.
Keith M wrote: Hi Keith, the Doncaster show in Feb' is all scales, the O scale show in Donny is in June, Rob will be there demo'ing. All being well I will be at both, it just depends when my first steam rally is, this year they clashed in June. If I do Telford it will be just for the day, the hotel prices are outrageous!! Cheer's, Pete.
jakesdad13 wrote: Not necessarily Pete, if you book far enough in advance - although it does depend on your definition of outrageous - the last couple of years were £49 per night B&B for the two of us but his year it has gone up to £70 (different hotel).
I'll be doing both days this year I think. Down the Friday night and back on the Sunday late afternoon. Best show I've ever visited. I think Paul is licking his lips at the thought as well.
I'll only be going over to Telford for the day (not sure yet which day it'll be) as it's only a couple of hours run from where I live. Doncaster is less than an hour away for me, but weather in February.....well, who knows? We've not had much in the way of snow for a few years, but in 2010, the last winter before I retired, we were stuck in for several days with 18" of snow on the farm lane we live on. Unfortunately, the farm doesn't use this lane as they have another access, and ironically, a year previously I'd traded in my trusty 'Discovery' V8 4x4 which I'd had for 7 years, and bought a 'normal' small car in readiness for retiring, so we were stuffed! That's one of the drawbacks to living 'out in the sticks', no snowploughs down our way! Keith.
Rob Pulham wrote: Hi Rob, £106 for one night with breakfast. Won't catch me again, £38 plus £9 for breakfast normal price! No wonder the Guild is haemorrhaging money putting exhibitors up in there. I can find something better to spend my money on at the show. Pete.
IT did seem expensive last year but it seems to be the same elsewhere. Elgin wasn't much better from memory. As soon as there is something on locally the prices go up. I see these deals advertising from £36.00 per night but have not managed to get one yet wherever I have been staying. A bit of a con I think but what do you do other than just don't go. Then you miss out on a great show if you are not within travelling distance. Toto
My Class 16 and my second class 21 arrived via postman pat 5 mins ago. Pictures of the class 16 to follow. cheers toto
And the class 16 straight out of the box ...... and there it is ....... the box ..... and the destruction disk ...... rodding and stuff ..... and one laid back mutt ..... and onto the main body etches ...... and from tother end ...... and more ........ and more ...... and need I say it ......... more not unpacking that lot ..... unless specifically asked to ...... grilles and stuff ....... and more ...... never ending ........ and allsorts of guff .......... and yet more brass etches ......... the white metal, plastic and sprung buffers etc ....... When you look at these brass etches you think ....... where does all that go. I've got to find a home for all that. i really need to get practicing on these brass wagon kits and build myself up to the most basic of standard loco's. these kits are beautiful but ..... scary. cheers for now toto
