Hello all, Many thanks for the welcoming e-mail As Gary from Sydney observed my avatar is a Victorian G Class diesel (should change it to a 48 Class but its my latest acquisition) and I model part of a fictional New South Wales/Victorian line that linked Nowra (NSW) to Orbost (Victoria). I am one of a small number of Brits that model Australian and am based in York in the UK (home of the National Railway Museum). I worked in Australia for a year and fell in love with the railways there and after my wife bought me a Class 422 for Xmas 2008 after which it was a slippery slope. I am from the bumbling amateur school of modelling and have made a number of excruciating mistakes in building my Wallace Creek layout on the way. However generally it works well and most importantly I get a lot of enjoyment from it. I know its not perfect but I try to improve it year on year if I can distract myself long enough from operations! I was brought up in Ipswich so also have an interest in the Great Eastern Railway and belong to the Great Eastern Railway Society. Although I don't plan to model it, the network of lines around East London must have been fascinating during the early part of the last century. I also like the old BR diesels having been a spotter from many years (1977-2000 or so) and also work in the British railway industry. I have to resist the temptation to buy a Class 03 to go on my Australian layout but luckily the Victorian Railways F Class (made by Dick Kerr) is an 08 substitute. I will post some pictures sometime soon - as I said my layout is not perfect but I think it is good for others to see that not everyone achieves perfection. Meanwhile I have a steelie to run behind an NR class......laters (as my teenagers say) Dave
Well spotted - bit of a long shot but were you a contributor to the free track plans site a few years back? There was a Gary from Sydney on that. Cheers Dave
Hi Dave, I'm a fully fledged member of the far from perfect club. we'll get on well. Looking forward to seeing your photos Cheers Toto
Hi Dave The important bit is it's fun - the rest can be worked how, when and where like - no pressure its a hobby (sorry Toto I didn't mean your requests, they'll be dealt with due urgency they deserve ) As for Ozzy railways, there's plenty of kindred spirits here, who I'm sure will be a great source of help. Looking forward to seeing the layout pics Paul
class48nswfan wrote: Unfortunately not me ! Although I do play around with Anyrail a fair bit drawing up various shunting planks for small spaces. I'll have to post a few of these ideas up in Suggested Layout Track Plan Examples... Cheers, Gary.
There are a few use Anyrail on here, myself included. The free version is ideal for smaller shunting planks etc. I personally think it's worth buying the full version as well. Worth the money I think. Cheers Toto
Welcome on board Dave , great intro mate! looking forward to seeing some pictures of what you are building. Cheer's, Pete.
