Gareth and a warm from Dundee. Looking forward to hearing about yourself and your modelling adventures. Once again welcome to the forum Paul
Hi all, By way of introduction, career railwayman, specialising in signalling design, modelling wise I'm very much in the o gauge kit building corner, no layout yet, era of interest is the transition period. Also dabbled in n gauge and a part started model of chinley stored away for a rainy day. Also have a very unhealthy interest in first generation dmus, and deeply involved in restoring some of derby works finest examples.. Drawn to this forum by steve beattie and the prospects of the highlander models kits as I'm looking At my next few projects hopefully a class 24 and a cobo amongst others. Finally as per most o gauge kit builders i have a pile 'to do' in the cupboard, however on the bench at the moment is a steve beattie class 15 and a david andrews west country pacific, both in the closing stages Cheers for now..
Ah the O Gauge kit building club... nice to learn about your interests Gareth, early dmu's hold an interest with me too particularly 104 units.
Hi Gareth thanks for the intro and the interest in Highlander models. I've indulged in a bit of a break with Highlander as the first few months have been manic but it's time to push the models again now so keep your eye open as there will be some updates as things develop further. I'll look forward to seeing how you get on with the class 15. Remember some pictures of your build progress. Just start up a thread for your build project and away you go. Again, a big welcome on board Cheers for now Toto
Toto, Certainly no rush, kit cupboard is full anyway so ill just keep plodding along until i see something that takes my fancy.. Im sure like many i obtained kits when they came up and many are now sitting awaiting attention.
I can relate to that. I have a huge stash of kits which may never see the light of day for some time. As York Paul alluded to, the class 104 is of particular interest and we have some great contacts with whom we can possibly bring this to kit form. Great to have you aboard. Toto
G'day Gareth, Welcome aboard from a wet Sydney morning. Sounds like you have settled in nicely and I'm sure you'll find plenty of great topics here. I'm looking forward to seeing your West Country when it's finished. I have a soft spot for the Southern. Cheers, Gary.
Hmmm 104s rattly rot boxes... 114, 115 and 127 for me, have built a westdale 114 with added detail, and have a 115 stashed away, might have to think about the 127.. but i have access to the real things so wont be a problem for measuring up..
Paul, Will dig out the unit and get some pictures, essentially its a westdale kit with etched brass windows, doors hinges and bump stops from other suppliers, with handles and a route indicator headcode box fitted. Don't think westdale are actively supplying at the moment, when i enquired earlier in the year he was building items for himself and didnt have stocks of quite a few castings.. shame as his kits are a good base model and you can just keep adding details..
Thanks Gareth I look forward to seeing them ... I was having doubts as to if Westdale were still going... looks like I'll have to go for a Derby 108 or a Gloucester 116 from Easybuild in the mean time.
I built a few of his Thompson suburban coaches a few years ago then like an idiot, went and sold them. When I next saw him at a show, I was informed they'd stopped making them . Shame really as they make a nice model with a few improvements. Pete.
