Graham and a warm from Dundee Great to have you on board and looook forward to hearing about youself andyour modeling adventures Paul
G`day Graham and welcome to Platform 1 MRC, I hope you enjoy the forum.....there`s plenty to see and do on here. Gormo........Sydney..........Oz.
and thanks all, for the welcome messages. I've only just taken the plunge into building a layout, having spent years thinking about it, buying bits and bobs, making plans, changing them, losing interest, selling bits and bobs, deciding on O gauge, changing my mind back to OO, considering N gauge, committing to OO and now - at very long last - track has been put to baseboard. It's a very small baseboard with a platform run-around just about big enough for 3 Hornby 4 wheel coaches and a small kickback siding, but at least it's got me started at long last. I'll be off to take a good look around here now and look forward to sharing, learning and enjoying with you all. All the best Graham
Thanks very much Rob I forgot to mention that I'm in the NE of England, Saltburn-by-the-Sea, so very much in LNER (the (proper ) 1923-48 version) territory. Although my first effort is just a little plank affair, I hope eventually to build a larger LNER themed layout. All the best Graham
Hi Graham, What a small world, although we now live in Newton le Willows nr Bedale, for 12 years we had a cottage on the outskirts of Saltburn (Brotton) so I know the area quite well.
Thanks Paul Cold and wet yes, but we should be grateful we didn't get the thundersnow https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-55184493
Hi Graham, I can't fault you there, although I have to say that the village improved tremendously during the 12 years that we were there. It's been six years since we left so it should be even better still by now. We had a former ore miner's cottage up on Day Street. We used it as a holiday home with our main home in Wakefield at the time. Do the potash trains still come through to and from Boulby?
Yes indeed Graham but I do suspect that a certain Gent and eminent leading light here was more likely in the epicentre of this storm... he will be on later I reckon.
Oh yes, they still trundle through every now and then. There's rumours of getting some passenger services back too, although probably a while away yet if it happens at all. I'm on the western side of the rail track, so most of Brotton is uphill from me, although the great views from the cliffs are well worth the effort. I've been here a couple of years now, having shifted up from the crowded SE after finding Saltburn quite by accident one day thanks to Google - a very good move indeed
He'd have slept through it - unless Lulu (his dog) woke him up It just rained in Dundee - and kept raining all day. - anyone would think it's a Scottish summer, unless you're in Altnaharra it was a warm -9.6 last night. Looking forward to seeing pics of the plank as it develops. Paul
Did I hear someone mention my name glad to see you are settling in Graham. You have met all the main trouble makers.
