Thank you gents 53 year old newbie got the old family train set , whats left of it anyway, and trying to find out if it is for me money is tight so budget at front of my mind got retired sick by royal mail as i cant run around like a headless chicken anymore and my inside job was done away with (B88888ds) so out of work and skint but you know what i do not miss it one bit. Anyway got lots to learn so please bare with, first attempt out a layout is a small 6 x 1 foot shelf just to ease myself in and learn a few tricks along the way , as i said money damn tight so budget railway it will have to be and i will continue to drool over all of your stunning layouts with a great deal of jealousy.
Hi Spinebender A small plank is an excellent way to start, and can be done quite cheaply. An inglenook shunting type of layout can be made with just a couple of points. Have a look at the Scalescenes site and try his freebie kit - low relief warehouse. Paul's low relief build Materials for this (in 4mm) 2mm Greyboard - or laminate several layers of cereal packaging to make 2mm 1mm cardboard - cereal packets - watch out for embossed boxes Thin Card (160 gsm) Good quality paper to print the outer layers on. All the buildings on my layout Victoria road are made this way The kits make excellent models, with the advantage that any mistakes can just be re-printed, and you can make as many of the building as you want. They are also very customisable. Paul
Good luck with the layout. There are some fantastic plank type layouts on here and many of the buildings and scenics are home grown. You should get plenty of ideas on here. Cheers Toto
hi paul yes a plank and it will be an inglenook with an added passenger line that will go behind a backscene my first layout i did on software gave me wiring issues as i don't understand it yet so a simple trackplan has been made with only point switching being the power to track control, i have been practicing my card building by using some simple free downloads from Wordsworth model railway fantastic site considering they are all free, so the journey begins a little shelf layout done on the cheap to keep me amused.
