Not sure whats going on with LSD at the moment, it could be a wiring fault or a decoder issue.....or something else.....???

I guess you had to disable the smoke alarm for the photo shoot :avatar:

Hi Ian, all will be revealed.... Chris no alarms went off but we did have to open a window to breathe :avatar:
So what you need is a nutter of a mate to buy the item below, bring it along to my house (note he didn't try it at his house first) and then turn it on for all of a couple of seconds.

I'm sure if we ask him nicely Chris (kentishlad59 ) will fill us in on the details of where he purchased it from, which between gasping for air and coughing, I think I heard cost less than $40.Should go down a treat at Claremont show next year !!!!

Dobbed me in then I see Kim....;) The smoke unit came from DJ City in Victoria via good old ebay, all of $37.95 including postage...an absolute bargain! I thought it was worth a punt at that price and it gave us all a bit of a laugh:avatar:
looks like we should be able to make it work as an atmospheric tool at exhibition....so long as we don't get kicked out that is!!

Now of course in the UK, you would have to two walls and half of the buildings roof to count as a legal smoking area.

    Very atmospheric shots.

Believe it or not but Kim tried his coffee scented stuff he puts in a loco Seuthe smoke generator, and it worked! Tends to use a fair bit though. The recomended fluid is about $25 for a litre and I reckon that would easily last a 3 day show. We are going to see if we can get some actual coal burning scent....for realism of course....

Oh yeah forgot to mention before, the unit came pre-loaded with 250mls of fluid for that all in $37.95 price......

Why not just have small real coal fire under the layout at the exhibition? Just remember to extinguish it before going home!

The lads at Sheffield O gauge group had something similar on their dockside layout, it exhausted into a large plastic box under the layout then pipes ran from the box to different areas and chimneys on the layout, there was a small fan blowing the smoke from the box and one fill lasted about 10 minutes, it looked really effective.

    Cheers, Pete.

Thanks for that Pete, sounds like we have to have another play with it and see what we can come up with.
I found a YouTube clip of one used inside a tunnel mouth on an outdoor layout, which was on for one second just as the loco came out of the tunnel mouth, very effective.
When we crack this one, we move onto rain :avatar::avatar::avatar::avatar::avatar:

Congrats on POTW Kimbo, well deserved.

I must admit, when I first read the title of this thread, I imagined that 'magic smoke'that appears from decoders...! Luckily, not so. Great pics within the thread.

    Cheers, Gary.
