Hi Martin, nice paint job and very convincing too... you need a model of Hanley station on a tight curve and in a cutting now to complete things.
I started modifying one of the Hornby coaches a while back. I used a razor-saw to take about 1mm off the height of each side, filed the end-panelling flat and then I lowered the roof profile by using an old CD as a radius line. The plan was to use an Airfix/Dapol Brake van kit to supply a new chassis and make a new roof out of thick paper and balsa, strengthened with CA glue. If I find the modified body shell, I'll take a picture and post it up for you.
I actually mixed up some Tamiya colors until i got a reasonable match , mostly reds and browns with a little black k added
