Hi Paul Thanks for the suggestions, they pretty much conform to what I did, yes horizontal is best, yes inner face to build plate, since these wheels are quite small and light I used a combination of medium and small supports, yes I did the detect island function. The fundamental problem is the width of the inner boss, I guess its about .05mm so very nearly impossible to support, I think your suggestion of getting Rob to increase its thickness and turn it down later could solve the problem. Having said that I will try this new test I have set up first. Keep well mate Mossy
Well the second test was a big a failure as the first. Rob can you beef up that inner most hub extrusion and re-send me the .stl's please. I now have 3 pairs of the larger wheel without that inner hub, are they of any use Rob or shall I just bin them? Mossy
Check your FEP and ensure that it’s clear. Just a scrape back of the resin with the black scrape will do. Ensure the FEP is clear and not white when you move the resin back. also ensure give it a good stir anyway and make sure you have a enough in… This was a reprint of a 9 hr print that ran out of resin! And this was the last of the bottle.. awaiting pay day. Thank goodness this is my model and not someone else’s. Andy Ps. See your not the only one to have mega fails @Mossy
I agree Rob nine hours for a serious ouch is a long long wait. I will cure the 3 failed sets of wheels and send them up to you, make of them what you will.
Since my printer is in the attic I try not to print on cold mornings, but it seemed ok today so I set off another print of my V1-1 brake 4hr 11min to wait. It finished about 20-25 mins ago, so I went for a look - ouch. Is this a problem with the temperature and cold resins? The only saving grace is it prints with the floor as a separate body, which is ok and I have found a spare body (not sure when that was printed but it looks ok) so a test build can recommence. Un washed, un cured and unloved.
That's a shame, if you are going to bin it, can I have it? It would make a great basis for a grounded van body scenario. Unless of course you plan to do the same with it?
If the dimentions are correct, then a bit of filler may fix the model. It may well be a temp issue, look at the supports in the same corner, they have failed as well. The model looks good tho' Paul
Rob, I have two, both are V1-1 bodies, this failure and also the one I screwed up before going to Northumberland. That has a perfect body and floor, the current failure is awful, would you like both or just one? There may be a couple of spare doors floating around somewhere as well. Paul, I have printed this model 3 times now using the same sliced file so I don't think it would have been a support failure. Having fished it out of the bin for Rob I can't see any support failures even though it looks like that on the pic, btw 3 out of 4 corners have the same failure.
I will take them both if you don't mind. Worst case I will end up dumping one of them but I may be able to make something of it and I do like a challenge
I had the same with a signal box.. base printed then same as you had, split, curled then restarted. the only reason that the collective minds could come up with was that some Debris had got in the resin (poss from a previous print ??) and just blocks the print. I tent to find I’m ok if straight from the bottle but if the resin has been in the vat more that 2 days, I have a 75% failure rate at some point across the bed plate.
Hi Andy, I don't think it was a debris problem there were 4 failures all along the same fault line, 3 of the corners and one in the door openings. I really don't know what happened, its the first time I have seen anything like it. Mossy
Same here. Never had a failure like this, but that was all anyone could come up with? Something was blocking the corner causing the rest to print. It also stopped the scaffold at the same points, so I went with the something in the resin as I had had a failed print but thought I had everything out.
For those that it may interest. You will recall that I drew up and had printed/cast an LNER brake van stove. Well a few weeks ago I had the opportunity to see and take photos of the real thing ( iahve only just got around to downloading them from my phone. This is situated in the NER H2 Stores van which is currently the subject of a major restoration by the Stainmore Railway and LCLT, based at Kirkby Stephen East Station in Cumbria.
I have been cutting out some NBR fish truck body parts for a friend who is building an NBR based layout. While I have cut the main body parts without issue I have struggled to cut out the detail overlays - hinges, washer plates etc. I am not sure what the whole issue is as I have done similar things many times in the past. One of the things that I have discovered as I have been troubleshooting is that Silhouette Studio in one of their upgrades have changed the orientation of the screen in relation to the cutting mat. It used to conveniently match how it appears in Inkscape if you have the page in landscape format. Now what would be the width in Inkscape is suddenly the height in Silhouette Studio not a biggie but it did catch me out before I noticed it. I am struggling for time to spend finding out what the issue is (and I think I need a new blade) so I decided to get this particular project off my plate to draw it in 3D and get it printed. Now although I have drawn lots of components in Fusion so far I haven't drawn a vehicle so this is my first. This is where I have got to with it so far - I think that I just need to add the corner plates and perhaps a builders plate. My mate Mark will add the under 'gubbins' and buffers
Finished, as far as I am taking it that it is. Let's hope that Mossy doesn't find any schoolboy errors when he test prints it....
Hi Rob If you'd modelled the floor in place it would help strengthen the print and help prevent the sides shrinking inwards - Andy is well aware of this issue with the window frames, and I had similar issues with the Passenger tank chassis. It would also help keep the fish in Nice model Paul
I have sent the F3D file to Mossy so he can work out what's best to suit his print set up. but worth knowing for the future should I draw up any more. I was very tempted to add a cast Fish Plate to the body side but I think that was an LNER thing so not right for the period that these are to be modelled in but I may add one for one for me at some point.
