I seem to remember spikes with a pig tail at the top, and a rope threaded through.

Now that`s something I could do and it looks about right for a platform.

    Thanks Tany

G`day Folks, Today I had a visit from Gary and his support team.....Jack & Jody. Gary had been visiting the local model shops promoting Platform 1 MRC and decided to drop in for a visit. Always glad to see Gary and his little mates. We had a good old natter and time flew by as usual. The boys were quite interested in my branch trains going out through the walls of the train room. It`s interesting when you see things through the eyes of children. I also managed to pretty much finish the bulk of the paving today. I still have the last section to deal with but that will be mostly tarmac and some smattering of pavers being removed by the work crew. A bit more thought and planning required before I tackle that bit. But it was good to reach the end of the pavers tonight.....a milestone for me. Here are some pics mostly shot from the spot where the station building will sit. Decided to do something different with the paving pattern here. It`s a difficult job....why not make it harder???

    Looking along the bay platform
    [IMG]
A bit further back along the platform.....station building area off to the right
    [IMG]
And looking the other way towards the area where the workers will be. Raised scenery will go behind the platform. A grass mound or some such thing.
And now some trains buzzing through the platform.

    Thanks Paul & Toto,

Paul what`s next is as follows.
Safety barriers for the platform work site.
I started out today with a little picket fence system that I modified considerably.

The idea was to make a portable system that could be loaded onto a truck or wagon.

And this is a little end support

Looks like this when stood up

And then a group of them to set up the work area.

Trouble was that no matter how much I sanded it down or modified it further, it just didn`t look right. It looks too heavy and just wrong.
So I raided the spare parts box again and pulled out part of an American model kit I`ve had for a while simply for parts. Should be able to make something out of this lot.

So this is it. Cut some sections out....trimmed them down and then cut some bases so the thing will stand up on it`s own. The bases are Superglued on.

I knocked up three of them but there`s enough there to do more if required.

They need a bit of a tidy up but I think the paint will transform them

I might even add a chain across the opening / access and also some small signage of some sort.

So there you go folks........another small step forward.

    G`day Folks,

Well Gormo has been busy working on a separate project, however I`ve now returned to finish off my platforms.......seems to be taking an age????

The end section is now surfaced with tarmac and hopefully you can see where the workers have recently added a new section......the darker section.

The boys have still to finish this section here.....pavers have been removed and the area is being prepared for bitumen. The railway company has decided to tarmac platforms now rather than replacing paving with new paving.......cost cutting I guess.????

These are some of the pavers the guys removed. They didn`t even stack them up properly......lazy sods.!!!!

These blokes won`t be doing any work on the platform until I finish painting them all.

Tomorrow I will blow off the excess gravel in the work area........the glue has to dry overnight......and then I will add some finer powder in sections to simulate dirt in the work area.

I have some planks to add, possibly some rope and other bits and pieces I can think of and there are some miniature signs to make........busy, busy, busy.

    More as it happens.

    OK....I`m back,

    Some pics of the area.

Pastels were scraped to create a powder that was added over the top of the gravel to give it some texture.

A shovel is planted in the dirt pile and some safety signs have been added. The signs were created in a drawing program and printed out onto photo paper. The edges were blackened with a marker and the backs were coated with a silver paint pen. The idea was to replicate galvanised sheet signs.

The workers have all been painted including the works supervisor who is looking on.

The cream coloured planks are yet to be painted

Gravel has been glued to the shovel so that it matches the gravel on the ground.

Dummy pavers have been cut and will be stacked up as if recently removed from the site.

Obviously the workers have to have their bases removed.

The workers and the fencing plus extras will have to be removed as the platform needs to be sealed. Once that is done they will be returned to their permanent positions.

Looks good Gormo. I'd say those blokes come from the land down under..., Men At Work ! :avatar:

One recommendation would be to make the loose paving stones the same size as the existing ones that you have scribed. ;)

    Cheers, Gary.

A few of the slabs cracked would also look good, as they never lift in one piece if you intend to reuse them.

    Well Folks,

The platform is done........the workers are in place........just need to add some more bits and pieces to dress it up a bit more and then on to station buildings.
