Well today I kept myself busy fitting decoder chips. My latest acquisition a Hornby Black 5 was DCC ready so opened it up and fitted a Laisdcc 8 pin flylead chip, gave it a clean up and lube at the same time. Next up was a 1980's class 25 diesel, removed the directional lighting and soldered in an eight pin socket, chip fitted. Stripped the non-powered bogie and cleaned it up (it was minging!), now runs fairly well. Finally a 1970's class 29, not too disimilar to the class 25 except no lighting to remove. Again cleaned up the non-powered bogie as it was filthy. Need to buy a wheel gauge before I clean up the powered bogie pick-ups. I also really need a running in track circle as I don't think any of the three have seen much action lately.
Nice. It's good to get the old models up to speed ! Have you considered buying two or three rollers and making your own rolling road ? Takes up less space than a circle of track ! See here : https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/OO-HO-G...N-ETC-NEW-O-GAUGE-AVAILABLE-NOW-/112077848541 Cheers, Gary.
Yeah it is nice to restore them to running order. I was looking at rolling roads after seeing DCC concepts at a recent show, they were running in freshly chipped locos. Might be time for a bit of DIY!
