    Well,

A build thread with a difference ...... Let me explain.

The recent production and release of the kit prototype of the Steve Beattie Class 26 has brought about a couple of collaborative projects here on Platform1.

The initial project involves the initial test build development kit being test built on behalf of Steve by York Paul. The intention is to iron out any potential revisions required to the development kit proving the buildability of the kit prior to the various etches being subject to any revisions and subsequent release to the general public.

Our Paul Dundee has also been hard in development mode offering up 3D prints of certain casts as an alternative to the originals provided by Steve and they have been well received whilst Steve lanes plans to invest in a new printer himself. So, a fair bit of collective effort going into the future release of what I am sure will be a very successful kit.

Now ...... York Paul being York Paul wanted some detail photographs of the real thing yo assist in the build and to also enable some qualified suggestions with regards to potential design changes. .......... enter stage left ......... Andy Solice. Now Andy just happens to know a man who knows a man :avatar:at Llangollen Railway Preservation Society and guess what :tophat: they just happen to have their very own Class 26. How lucky is that. :avatar:

So, various photos were freely provided. ..... many thanks thus far to all involved.

Now, being rather chuffed at the amount of team effort and collaboration in what was going on so far from folks from the various different parts of the railway fraternity , we decided to take the whole thing a step further.

Andy contacted the man who knows the man and asked the question, ...... how would you like a completed model of a Class 26 based on your own prototype to display at your premises. The idea was very warmly received and so commences the Llangollen Class 26 presentation build.

York Paul has very kindly offered to complete the build and paint it up in its final BR Green livery, he us also building the display csbinet which shsll feature the lovomotive set in a scenic surround. The kit has been provided courtesy of Platform1, upgraded 3D printed mouldings have been produced from the Original Steve Beattie artwork and CAD files by Paul Dundee with the kind permission of Steve Beattie.

Andy Solice is the Contact and " Face " of the project who is currently organising a suitable date for the hand over presentation of the kit with the view of all the team involved attending Llangollen Railway for the presentation possibly in June July ..... to be confirmed.

So ..... with no more ado ..... I'll hand you all over to Yorkie for the start of what I am sure will be a terrific build....... on behalf of Platform1 ...... Thanks to all involved.

We will keep everyone posted as to progress and ultimately the weekend dates for the presentation as it would be great to see some members come along for what I think will be a very special meet up.

    Cheers

    Toto

Thank you Toto, I'm really excited to build this loco particularly as what this actually does is to bring a kit makers new product, a preserved locomotive, a successful heritage railway and our Forum together all in one hit and that is not even mentioning all the goodwill and publicity that will come from this. This has got to be a first for any Internet Forum Group and our wonderful hobby as a whole, suddenly we will be reaching out to a whole new audience and raising appeal from the public alike.

So the lucky loco in question is D 5310 aka 26010 is currently undergoing repairs at Llangollen which will see a full repaint into British Railways Green livery featuring the Lion and wheel emblem, Andy Sollis is frontman driving the details of this project between the loco owner and ourselves, he has agreed to cover such research areas as the size of display case and final livery style, we need also to be mindful of the amount of display space available and the logistics of the actual display itself. This is a really important consideration because like all things even Heritage Railways are often short of suitable space to show items of interest, so we have to make a happy balance between the wants and needs of all parties involved.

Now the build itself is near identical the my current Class 27 thread, so I don't intend to repeat areas already covered, instead I'll post up when completion of core elements are finished, the model will not require motoring up so that simplifies things somewhat, however a small scenic diorama display case will be build by myself. So now I'm off to examine all the shinies with a view to making an immediate start... there is a lot of work to do.

The Class 26 display build has started, already complete are the two inner bogie frame sets fitted with wheelsets and running freely. In the background are my Class 27 inner bogie frames and since making these I've discovered an easier way to assemble the display loco bogies.

Just a simple modification involving soldering in a small washer below where the pivot bolt will sit adding strength to what could essentially be a weak spot. now to assemble the outer bogie frames.
