Bruce bonus with this loco. I was reluctant to take it as I never imagined that they had run in Scotlan. ...... well well well, they were everywhere in Scotland. St Margaret, Haymarket, Dundee ........ it goes on and on. What a complete bit of luck.

    Chuffed now.

By coincidence I have seen a couple of these recently and they can make up into good kit's but...

A couple of things to be aware of -
    1. There is only half of the smokebox saddle the other side etch was never included so you either scratch build the other side based on the side that you have or you buy a casting from ACE for about £7 I believe.
    2. The motion looks really flimsy and if I ultimately buy one (as I might) I would replace all the motion with something a bit more substantial - I wouldn't want to go to the effort of making it all work to find that it got chewed up the first time I attempted to run it.

As I said the two that I have seen looked good when built and I am considering one myself.

and here are some pictures specifically to tease you then ....... the least I can do. :avatar: i did not bother with the destructions unless anyone specifically wants them.

out of the box comes the following ........

Loco wheels all present and correct .........

tender wheel ........ erm ..... :scratchchin: wrong ones but they will do a class 24 / 25 ( wont they York Paul )

the usual bags of white metal, buffers and stuff

name plates so a little investigation required to see where this was based.

    loco chassis etches ....

    loco footplate etc .......

    loco cab etches

Disc bogie wheels of 3' 9" diameter by Slaters are ref B7845 and these wheelsets fit Classes 24, 25, 40, 45, 46, 47 and 56.

The 34 Hunt or Shire class D49 locomotives were fitted with Robinson GCR 4000 gallon tenders (all but one loco that was) and according to records the wheelsets fitted to these tenders were 4' 3" diameter. Slaters list available wheelsets as a 12 spoke general pattern ref number 7851 which I presume would be the correct type for this tender but am not sure. Don't forget Morayshire is preserved on the Bo'ness & Kineal Railway so you could always have a jaunty up to it sometime. Hope this info helps.

What's the bets that the kit comes with a group standard tender which they were fitted with when built....The change ex GCR tenders taking place in the 1940's

Not sure if it's of any interest but there is a Gladiator GCR tender kit for sale on the Guild E&T lists for £50 - no wheels or instructions but what do you expect for £50

The tender kit might have been of interest to me if I had been modelling a later period but mine will have the group standard tender attached to it as in the 1930's - thinking about it further I am pretty certain that the kit has the group standard tender because I was admiring that too on one of the builds and talking to the chap that built it he said it was quite straightforward which is a good sign. - you don't often get ACE and straightforward in the same sentence so savour it....:avatar:

Unfortunately the tender etches are missing. The box describes a loco build but does not state tender. Again, i was under the impression that these kits supplied both. Another word in Ellis's shell like otherwise I am trying to source one. i note the one above but without the destructions ....... Mmmmmm I'll check out the price of a new one from ACE or Gladiator if they do one.

    cheers

I am sure that David Hill would let you have a set of instructions for it but to be fair there isn't much to a tender that would stress you once you have a few builds under your belt.

https://www.aceproducts.org/index.php?route=product/product&path=6_26&product_id=66 - although it doesn't say it explicitly, the inference from the photo is that you get a group standard tender with it.

To but a new tender from Gladiator it would be £110 from the last one that I bought

Cheaper buying the full kit or ask how much they would charge for a separate tender.

A suitable tender sourced from Jim Mcgeowan, tarnished but will clean up fine including various castings £ 50.00.

He consulted his LNER green book and it's amazing the various tenders that were allocated to the many variation of this class at different stages due to refits and modifications.

    Happy chappy.

Tender arrived this morning. Very nice. No real sign of any tarnishing to me anyway. All neatly packaged as always and a very quick service.

    Many thanks Jim.

    One happy customer.

    Photos later as usual

    Cheers
