Noticing that the Anycubic Craftsman Resin si always out od stock, I decided to contact Anycubic for an update and compatability of the DLP Craftsman resin.

    "
I have noticed your Craftsman Resin has been out of stock for sometime.
This is my primary resin, as I model Model Railway rolling stock with many flat surfaces and find this resin produces the smoothest surfaces.
My printers are Mono X 4K (x2) and Original Photons (x2)
Is the DLP Craftsman Resin a suitable replacement for my printers.
I have tried the ABS like resin and standard resins, but layer lines are visible far more than on the Craftsman resins.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. "

    And got a prompt reply

    Hello,
    Thanks for emailing us.
Since the Craftsman Resin will not be produce anymore, i have consulted the engineer and the DLP resin can satiate your requirement.
Please feel free to contact us if we can be of further assistance.
    Best regards

So looks like the DLP Craftsman resin could be my new resin of choice.
Just need to order some up.

    Paul

Just bought two 1Kg bottles of DLP Craftsman resin from Ebay
Buying two got me them @ £23.03 each.

Think it may take more than some DLP resin to satiate my needs, I did think at the time I may have found the support member moonlighting from a more hands on department.
Or maybe the resin prints are so good they're orgasmic, you never know.

Due to arrive on wed or thurs.
    Quick stock check of resins,
    ABS - 1 white, 3 grey & 5 green
    Craftsman 2 Beige
    Std 0.5 Grey, 1 green, 1 clear

I have been meaning to mention for a while but kept forgetting that a good number of the guys on Western Thunder who are 3D printing are using Siraya Tech Resins and thy seem to be highly recommended https://siraya.tech/. -

    Cheers Rob,

I have heard good reports regarding Siraya Tech, if this DLP resin works out ok then I'll stick with it, otherwise ........ - the amount of trial and error in determining correct exposure for often minimal gain is often not worth it - how's it better the devil you know.

However, I looked at the Siraya tech resins from Robs link, and for UK buyer, the Siraya Rech Emerald Blue Blu resin is currently available buy 1 get one free due to a labelling error and they are clearing stock.

    Paul

PS my DLP Resin arrived today - more testing :whatever:

I don't find any great difference with the results using the new DLP Craftsman and the older Craftsman, I even use the same print settings.

After all the discussions about hires /stl files and DLP craftsman resin the photo below shows a simple open wagon, hires, dlp and printed parallel to the build plate oh and also in much better light. I think it's actually better in real life that in the photo. I'm sold on both and will be standard for all prints from now on.

Looking good, more importantly, it works.

I have found with the ABS resin the same layer exposure seems to work but I have reduced the bottom layer exposure by approx 25% from my normal resin settings- but am still playing with this. The prints at normal settings were very hard to remove from the build plate.

I'm only using the ABS for W irons, Axle boxes, Leaf springs, buffers, brake levers and coupling hooks, where a bit extra strength is required and not too much detail.

That' pretty much what I am using it for, though I have a lot of axleboxes pre printed, so don't need to print any more till they run out. I may even then continue to use craftsman as they tend to be very visible, still to be decided up on. The other place I have started using them are floors on open wagons etc, I have found if you print and cure the wagon body but then loose fit an ABS floor it has sufficient flexibility to get passe all that internal nut and bolt detail I then cure the floor in situ but unglued, a nice alternative to print without or with and all the attendant problems.

:scratchchin: mmmmmm, at the moment I'm still printing open wagons at 45 degrees, but for the vans I've been printing the floor direct on the base plate and adjusted the size to cope with the elephants foot, that and I think I'm down to 3 or 4 base layers. Time to have a re-look at wagons then.
