This is one of two kits I have had in my stash from the range offered by MMP - Modern motive Power,
A David and J Parkins Products.

reference material can be seen on Pauls web page:-

    https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/brhodcontainer

The kit contains 4 units which make an interesting load for the skaters BR Lowfit wagon 7069. They can also be used with other general merchandise stock or used as a line side accessory in the goods yard etc, and as the end doors can be modelled open or latched as per the real units (latch can be modelled as a working unit) MMP supply two “brick” etched loads, one for a closed unit and one for a unit with the door end lowered. So several options for use with this kit.

so what’s in the flat packet ?

    instruction sheet

lots of nice small etched parts that look more like OO gauge items than o gauge, should be nice on the eyes ! !

so time to read the instructions and start cutting out the main parts................

Toto, interesting and very fiddly, there’s some very small parts to solder up.

so a good hours work had the main parts cut free from their etches, the main parts bent to shape quite easily but the minute parts, that the carpet loves to hide from you, where left until required.

Did I mention small parts to solder !! This is the door latch and the hole it needs to be soldered into.

one down 7 to go !

seems the best way to solder the frames up is to inset the inner etch into the outer etch and then solder corners and the inner join line. I’ve used low melt solder which makes the job easy.

lifting straps, and hinge details are straight forward to fit. I intend to model all 4 with full loads on the Lowfit so working doors is not really required but I’m going to have a go if I can.

I see what you mean about the fiddly bits. Looks like a really nice detailed kit which should be a nice model when done.

The low melt solder. :scratchchin: I'm assuming that you will be going nowhere near it with higher temperature stuff later in the build.

Sometimes ( I'm guessing now ) small sub assemblies can be done and offered up to the main build later when the threat of higher temperatures are gone.

I'm just starting to try and think ahead on builds to allow for that. All part of the learning curve.

Looking forward to seeing it done ...... could be tempted ..... :avatar:

    Cheers

Nice to see more MMP kit's being built. Although there are lots of small parts they are really good value.

I have built the glass wagon and have some opens and the roadstone wagon in my to do pile.

I have a couple. They all seem to have a load of small parts but are capable of providing really detailed kits. they also model some less common wagons which adds a bit variation away from the typical coal wagon or van types. Looking forward to seeing it finished.

‘yes correct Toto, I used 179 solder for the detailed bits then 100 when adding the assembled section to the main part, mind you with an 80w soldering iron you still need to be quick.

strange you should mention the glass wagon Rob.
    Do these bits look familiar?

I took on the challenge of seeing if I could make a working clamp.

I taped out the square block and it worked a treat.

and fitted to the model which has still to be finished off.

Great model, something very different and a great challenge to build.
