Hello All, it is a shame none of these units were preserved as they were historically very significant in being the first Mk11 monocoque body based multiple unit, the first use of a B4 and a B5 bogie on a multiple unit and the first multiple unit to be built new and delivered in rail blue with an all over yellow front. They also transformed West Coast line secondary services, and unlike many newer multiple units managed to enter service and run for years without any major technical problems. Yes, I am aware that the curved windscreens were replaced, but blatant vandalism is not a design fault ! Regards, Echidna
I'd be interested in it, Andy. Are you able to accept PayPal and could you work out p & p for Melbourne, Australia (postcode 3130), please? Regards, Jeff. p.s. If I don't build it myself, I have a friend who would dearly love to have this EMU, having had one stolen from him at an exhibition some years ago.
Hi Jeff, yes I do take PayPal. I have no idea re price to send to Auz, but can look in to it. I’m on night shifts at the moment so may be Monday before I can sort this. Andy
That's fine, Andy. I'm in no particular hurry. Also, I know the post could take quite a while to get it here.
Done and dusted! Now all I have to do is wait for the slow post to Australia from the UK. Southern Pride kits are difficult to get over here because they don't accept anything except cheques or cash. Their kits on eBay are few and far between. It used to be easier to buy SP kits as I have done a few of them over the past years. Anyway, thanks Andy.
The class 310 arrived safely this morning. It will go into the line of EMUs and DEMUs awaiting my attention to complete them (can't rush these things, can we?!). I PM'd you as well, Andy, but it says much the same thing ... thanks. I know this isn't the first Southern Pride 310 in Australia. A friend had one part-built and it got stolen from an exhibiton while he was packing up. He bought another, which is still unbuilt. I thought he might like ths one too, but I think I like the idea of building it myself and finishing it in plain BR blue with polished aluminium window frames.
always loved these units and the 304's. My intention is to build both in O gauge. Not sure how im going to achieve it though.
I have put the body shells together on the class 310. I probably won't do much more for the time being, but having done this makes it a little easier to deal with the construction at my leisure. The body shells are posed here for dramatic effect - I did make sure there was no power in the tracks first, though! I didn't check to see if I had the 1st class end driving car at the right end, I'll worry about correct formation when I have completed the construction and painting. Construction progress will continue (probably sporadically) on my workbench topic. P_20200624_220536_vHDR_Auto by Jeffrey Lynn, on Flickr P_20200624_220529_vHDR_Auto by Jeffrey Lynn, on Flickr
that looks lovely. Ive been throwing ideas around in my head about how i could produce one in O gauge. I wonder if the old triang big big coaches could be used as a starting point with 3d printed cabs and window inserts
I suspect the Big Big coaches are a bit shorter than they should be, but otherwise they would probably be a good framework.
yes your are correct they are short. a cut and shut job could be done to lengthen them. I rememeber some years ago someone making a blue pullman in a similar fashion
