Just as it says ......... This is our 2018 Christmas competition for the O gaugers amongst us. What I am after is this ........ take one piece of O Gauge rolling stock ....... anything ....... and either change its purpose to something bespoke ..... maybe something that has been changed to some kind of departmental vehicle ...... loco or wagon. maybe its purpose has changed completely. It does not need to be able to run so could be something that is formed from a piece of complete and utter scrap .... maybe something cheap as chips from that bay place. you could always scratch build a bit of a wagon out of plastikard or something ........ its up to you. A bit of weathering or livery change .... maybe a fictional private owner. whatever. You must create a thread and update it regularly with progress photo's and a narrative of materials used and techniques employed. Submission date is 1st December 2018 as 12 noon UK time looking for a volunteer to judge from the mods if they are not entering either xmas competition or it will be me. one entry per member only you cant enter both the O gauge and OO gauge Christmas competitions must be your own work. Mods are allowed to enter. Whats up for grabs ....... first of all ...... from our recently topped up prize bucket ....... A Darstaed MK1 BSK Coach in BR blue and grey livery and ........ a connousseiur model wagon in etched brass. ( type to be announced ) so ..... there you have it ....... plenty of time. please create your own thread clearly marked as your official christmas competition entry in O gauge. any questions ...... shout out. cheers toto
Update to the above. The connossieur kit to be won shall be a J79 0-6-0 locomotive kit in etched brass. and here it is ........ and the destructions .... and the brass rods etc ........ rolled boiler and white metal fittings ....... and the all important brass etches ...... So there we have it. A big thanks to both Jim McGeowan and Ellis Clark for supplying these fantastic prizes and good luck to all that enter. Cheers Toto
Hi Rob. Yes. Finished article by the submission date but regular updates from the start of the build. cheers toto
This is a good as excuse as any to start on a Model I’ve been putting off doing for a while. I will cast up some sides and ends from master patterns I have already for the Standard coach parts. The idea is to convert a standard NSWGR end platform coach into a Area health car as used throughout the Regional areas of NSW there were several conversions for various uses from general health to specific health issue use including dental, baby health etc they were painted in a cream colour with green lining and lettering I was able to get some photos of one of these cars last year as it is preserved at the Cobar visitors info centre and Museum this being the No3 baby health car One of the Area Health cars positioned in a yard ready for the locals to visit The standard End Veranda coaches on Moonan Flats as the local passenger the cream and green livery will make for a nice bit of variety on the layout.
Looks interesting Chris ....... you are off to a flyer with that ...... and set the bar high. good luck. toto
Count me in for this one, the J79 is right up my street. Not so sure about the blue grey coach though. I will post up a thread with my plan when I get back home.
Where are we posting what we plan on this thread or somewhere else? - I will pop it here for now, it can always be moved later.
Right, here we go. I intend to convert one of these - Slaters North Eastern Railway/LNER 20 ton Hopper Wagon kit to this This is a prototype for the Bulk Alumina wagons that were used for may years in a few variations for carrying Bulk Alumina to the smelting plants at BurntIsland in Scotland by the LNER and later BR. The image above is copyright Peter Tatlow and is shown here purely to illustrate what I plan to convert the hopper wagon to.
The J79 arrived from Jim McGeowan this morning. Pictures later. As always, well packaged and in top notch condition. Many thanks Jim. Cheers Toto
You'd be better starting your own thread Rob or it will be interrupted with others posting on it. Give it a heading under the competition title with Rob's submission as part of it. Cheers Toto
I see why you've inserted it here. I'll create a forum for the entries. My apologies. Give me 15 mins or so to set it up. Cheers Toto
All Please look under the competitions forum and you'll find a purpose built section to create your Christmas O Gauge entries. Cheers Toto
Well, I tried to create the thread and the forum was there but it seems to have dissapeared when I tried to post the thread.
Please see the new category under competitions " 2018 O Gauge Xmas competition " in which to start your own threads to cover your entries. Cheers Toto
Hi Rob ...... it's there now it just took a bit of setting up to get it in the right format. I seem to be good at screwing competition threads up these days. I have created one for the OO scale competition as well. Cheers and apologies. Toto
