Well ........ I'd like to say that this is a pleasure but I can assure you its not..... This has been the hardest competition to date to judge and in hindsight, I wish I had press ganged someone else into doing it at the start. I have been looking at this over the last couple of days and have been having a real issue in trying to work out the best way to judge the best. the problem is ...... there is not a best, they are all phenominal in their own right. So, I'll attempt to give a reasonable idea as to how I came across the order in which they have been chosen and once I'm finished ....... I'm heading for the hills before I'm lynched. I am sure everyone could unravel my logic ....... or lack of it but anyway here goes. In third place ..... Ianvolvo. Now ...... this is an outstanding piece of work. When I saw it posted and watched the details being added and the bridge construction and weathering details, I thought ..... this is the winner. Of course ..... along came the other entries ...... another three to be exact. On viewing them all, it threw the cat amongst the pigeons because again, the standard was so high. This leads me on to second place which goes to Vinylelpea. what a build. A very commanding structure which is also worthy ( as is ian's ) of taking 1st place. The reasoning behind this I'll mention after announcing 1st place because the logic is a bit inter twinned. OK ....... First place goes to Jakesdad. A corker of a build ( like the others ). By this time I was clueless on how to pick the order of merit so here is how I ended up doing it. All three as I am sure you will agree are right out of the top drawer. There was different elements of each that I could highlight to try and pick the best but in the end The main reason that Ian Volvo took third was it had the least utilisation of the scalescenes print. Its the only way I could get to the verdict as so many other elements would have dictated either 1st or 2nd. That left me with 1st and second to sort out and both pete and Phil had used the scalescene print to a greater extent and the only way that I could differentiate between the two was that although they had both applied undergrowth and landscaping to great effect, I thought pete's had the edge. Before I go any further I would like to show my appreciation to Ron who although not making the top three in this instance, also provided a top entry. Well done Ron and thanks. So ...... there we have it. Congratulations to you all and thanks for your submissions. Pete ..... £50.00 of Scalescenes vouchers will be coming your way ..... Phil £30 of vouchers to yourself and Ian £20 of vouchers to you. I will be contacting you all to organise your prizes with Scalescenes over the next couple of days. Cheers for now toto
Not at all Ron. You were up against some stiff competition there. your own entry was well built and great testimony to your modelling skills.
Wow I didn't expect that! Thank you for your kind words Toto. I'd also like to congratulate IanVolvo and Vinylelpea on their awards, both worthy entrants. And I agree with Toto on Rons entry, very high standard too! I'm just glad it wasn't me that had to choose. Cheer's, Pete.
It has to be the hardest thing I've ever had to do. I think that no matter what concoction I had came up with, it would not have been right or wrong. The scene from Ian's was tugging at my heart. It was a work of art whilst Phils was such a strong build and so crisply finished. With your own, the mix of brick and girder on the bridge and the luscious scenics, it gave me a real problem. This must be the best competition that we have had yet in terms of standards. I think we need to have a competition gallery showing winners from all the competitions where builds of this kind are involved. It would stand as a huge credit to the modellers of this forum. Absolutely top drawer stuff guys. Toto
Congratulations Pete a worthy winner. To Ian what a great build. For myself I'm very happy to come second. Enjoyed the build and helped fill in those hot summer nights we had. Phil
Congrats to all that entered the comp All are winners in the creative stakes top job done by all I’ll concur with Toto very hard decision and if it had been done as a sealed envelope job I would have handed in the same result with the order well done Toto with the Captains call
Congratulations to Pete and Vinylelpea, worthy winners indeed and a very fair judgement Toto, Ron also came through with a sterling build. it was an enjoyable competition so more of the same please.
Congratulations to all entries. Each model was different and each model had merit. Well done to Pete for claiming P1, Phil for P2 and Ian in P3. Now, I believe that Pete will be sending his bridge build to me for my eventual O gauge layout... Cheers, Gary.
Very high standards of design and build from all, just thankful I wasn't the one who had to choose a winner from these superb builds, so well done to all. Keith.
