Hi is any body able to help with advice on how to remove the body, from the chassis on the Dapol cattle wagon, Dapol appear to have glued the body to the wagon frame, however as far as I can see it also appears to be glued at the ends only. But it also looks very fragile. My intent is to put livestock in the wagons. I have read a few articles and they all advise that its a waste of time to attempt this task. Cheers Richard
Hi Richard, thanks for posting this question. I believe there are four small pips that locate into small sockets on the chassis in each corner. Remove the wheel sets and with a strong fine flat blade, insert it between the body and chassis and twist gently until the joint snaps apart, repeat on all four corner. Once the cattle are fitted the joints will need cleaning up and re gluing. Kim Edit. If you have a look here :- http://www.hattons.co.uk/50879/Dapol_B010Dapol_Unpainted_wagon_body_cattle_wagon/StockDetail.aspx You can just about see the sockets on the left hand side.
Thanks Ron, that makes it much easier to see Richard, looking at Rons model it might be easier / safer to use a small drill and drill out the "pips" from the underside. Kim
You try to get into the latest Cattle wagons from Bachmann....almost impossible and when I asked Bachmann how to get into them - they asked "Why would anyone want to?"
Well that answers my next question about the Bachmann wagons. I'll see what happens next. Thanks for the advise Richard
Another snag with many wagons and coaches is that they're far too light in weight, even with the usual bit of metal. I often replace the fitted weight with a similar or sometimes larger piece of lead roof flashing, which gives stock more 'presence' on the track, and especially with coaches or bogie wagons, helps keep wheels on the track, particularly over points, crossovers etc. Keith.
Not on the topic of Dapol cattle wagons, but similar I have had a look at the Oxford Rail (NE) and Hornby (SR) cattle wagons. Both are very well detailed but I can not see any way of getting these bodies off either, the Hornby wagon, wagon has detail on the inside which adds realism to the model. I guess no body has thought about this aspect. Richard
