Not just Hornby that allow factory operatives to practice their soldering "Skills" on prospective customers models or "Quality Control" to pass them as OK then!:hammer:

Had a look. Mine looks to be OK...

interesting that there is a switch on the PCB. No mention in the instructions?
I guess talking to others this turns on the cab light when on DC? (Not been run yet)

So I’ve managed to lay 6 yards of track (across the living room floor when the wife’s out!!!!) and fitted a sound decoder. Gone for the LegomanBiffo sound files and it’s a ESU locsound 5 decoder.

Opening the package, it comes with one of these new sugar cube speakers.. but you have to glue up the sound box. It doesn’t play straight from the box... wonder why?
Fitting was a doddle and I’ve chosen for now to just bluetac the speaker to the PCB.
Next was to test it out...

but... nothing else in the box. No ESU paperwork, no details of what functions did what!

so back to the web and have a look there..

    printed the functions out..

I must say at this point, I have one of the earlier models (ie early built D3002 at Derby) so it’s top marker light and two bottom marker lights (one red, one right)
Now for those that really do know the diesel shutters, it should have the red and white markers, but!! They should be able to change from side to side. On the model you cant... the reason being is that a loco would display a white light nearest to a running line and a red on the off side, so if it’s working the other side a main line, they would be on the opposite side. Only option with the model is to turn it around.. never mind.. I can understand in OO it being limited, but surely in O this could have been done?
    Moving on...
Passing f0 for headlights.. also brings on the cab light...- but the instructions say this is F19?
F19’turns on one end of the marker lights.. but the instructions say that on F0? I can see some experimental editing on Decoder pro coming up!

next on the instructions.. some “notes”.. “on F15 drivelock, this will Lock at any point the vehicles speed and divorce it from the engine sounds.
But F15 is listed as Spirax valve popping? (When engine off...) :scratchchin:
    I’m confused now.!
Can’t hear the window wipers. Can’t really make out the detonators (why???)

right, back to decoder pro. It’s been downloading all the CV’s the past hour now, shuffling back and forth... and it’s still not done!

Yes that was expensive smoke, luckily only a relatively cheap decoder. All fixed now. Lucky I sent you that photo as I could have been several decoders up in smoke. Thank you.

    Cheers
