Where do I find a kit or circuit board for DC directional lighting using bi coloured LEDs. I would like to fit into a loco and also a Class 117 DMU Kerry
Hi Kerry The problem with Bi-Colour LED's is they tend to be Red / Green, or Green / Yellow, some will give yellow by illuminating the green and red together to give yellow. Another solution would be to use optical fibre in the lamp sockets running back to a light box - simply a box with the fibres running into it with two led's 1 red and 1 warm white. Changing the track polarity will change which LED illuminates, the 10K resistor dimms the LED and limits the current. Paul
Hi Kerry, DCC Concepts seem to have understood the problem of availability over the red/white Bi Led's that Paul mentions and they have recently come up with this to help solve the problem: www.dccconcepts.com/product-category/dccconcepts-led-selection/redwhite-and-white-leds/ Give them a ring, Richard Brighton is your man to ask advice to see if this product suits your needs. regards, York Paul
Thanks for the replies. I do have the 3 leg bicolor leds like DCC Concepts, but mine came from France some time ago. Will test the circuit next week. Kerry in Qld
Some use the fibre optic and light box method, allows for smaller body lamps as well. Also the red and white lamps are not always in the same location. Using the above circuit, you can have several LED's in the same leg e.g. two Red's in series. Paul
