Ah yes. Sorry about that . I attempted to build one of his A4 kits. I got the tender done and had so much trouble with the loco that I gave up. The tender ended up on my Hachette flying Scotsman which i updated to 1950's condition. I unfortunately sold that when I was a little short of cash so need to replace that at some point

Just a quick one to report that i have procured some frames for the loco. They are hachette a4 frames. Being based on the djh kit the frames, not suprisingly are an almost exact fit on the w1 body rear end not withstanding. Only a few hundred other bits to find/make 20221213_145627.jpg

make sure you give them a good going over with some wet & dry cos they are coated with some form of lacquer

good point. i had forgotton about that. I havent built the hachette mallard but the scotsman i did and thatwas similar. I have vague recolections of me dipping them in acetone which removed it on that kit

I have quite a few bits for the Hachette Scotsman which includes two of the same side chassis frames (I can't recall whether they are both left or both right but it means that I will have to drill out the rivets and put solid ones in when ever I get to building it as the half etched ones on one side will be visible.

If i remember correctly the rivets on the A3 frames are mainly hidden by the wheels. i dont believe i did anything with them due to them not really being seen. whoever modified the etching artwork on that kit for hachette didn't seem to really understand loco kit design fully. a lot of rivets where etched on the wrong side, in relief or in the case of the cab as holes which they later supplied wire to fill. the later method while being time consuming was actually quiet effective. The a4 being based on the djh/piercey kit has etched overlays for the rivet detail. im yet to decide weather to bother sourcing some from ebay.
