G`day Folks, Here`s a short one for you involving some steam running at Thirlmere. Thirlmere is located South West of Sydney and is the site of the NSW Rail Museum. I first started visiting there in the early 1990`s and I must say, it has come a long way since those early days. It is home to quite a few steam locos and rail cars, carriages and wagons in various states of restoration, however for fear of making a rather long video, I have kept this one down to a train trip between Thirlmere and Buxton and return. The line is not what you would class as a scenic line, especially now due to our prolonged drought. The whole Picton and Thirlmere area is reminiscent of a waste land. The whole area is bone dry and one careless spark would set it off and burn it to the ground. We wait in hope for rain.......probably when it does come, it will come with a vengeance and we will then be waiting in hope for a dry spell............oh well what can you do. Anyway if you are ever down that way, I would recommend a visit. Most Sundays throughout the year are steam running days. Check their website for details. https://www.nswrailmuseum.com.au/ Gormo
No worries Toto, It was a battle with the wind on the day.........quite blustery conditions as you can probably hear and see in some of the footage. Gormo
Great video Gormo. Apart from the cool and windy day, at least the sun was shinning ! To compliment your video, here is some video I took of 2705 early in March... Cheers, Gary.
I don't think any Z27 would ever have looked that clean and shiny except maybe for when it was initially delivered The NSWRTM is a place I really should get to more often - the last time I was there was with my daughter and grandson for the Thomas the Tank Engine day (or was it a weekend - I can't remember) in July of 1017 (there was only one grandson then - his brother didn't arrive until almost three months later). I got drafted in by my daughter for the day as her partner couldn't make it because of work commitments. It didn't take much persuasion to get me to come along. I can't remember if 2705 was in steam that day.
