    G`day Folks,

Welcome to Episode 126 19 Yard Lighting.

I guess you would wonder why one would bother making yard lights when they are readily available in model form at fairly reasonable prices.

The price tends to creep upward with the level of quality as one would expect, but that is the way of most things.

Well my approach to this hobby, is one of creating as much of the bits and pieces required as I can myself. I guess that is an old style approach and a slow way of doing things, however this approach pays back in levels of satisfaction that I can`t gain from off the shelf items.

Obviously, there are lots of things that I use off the shelf for my railway, but I do try and put as many of my own creations in as possible.

This brings us to yard lights.

I felt that yard lights should be a relatively easy build as long as you can find the right parts. This does involve thinking outside the box and seeing the potential or adaptability in otherwise every day items, but I seem to be blessed with that ability for some strange reason, so I use it wherever I can and I`m happy to pass on the info to anyone who is interested.

I must say I am quite pleased with the initial results, and considering that the lights are made from Cocktail Straws, Rivets, Pins for sewing, Plastic Screw Caps and an LED, the transformation of these parts into a reasonable little model light would seem unlikely…...but there you are….it can be done.

This is how they turn out
