Well, it's about time I entered this competition !

Due to my printer going on the blink, I had to purchase a new printer and new inks, as my old printer is a Canon and that there is no new Canon printer that will take the new inks I bought for it recently... :(

So with my new HP printer now up and running, this is going to be the most expensive competition I have entered !! :avatar::avatar:

    The new toy...

    all up and running...

I have the TO24A kit in my stable of Scalescenes files and I'll also be using some of these five following, but maybe not all :

    TX07 Aged Brown Brick
    TX14 Concrete Wall
    TX29 Aged Corrugated Iron
    TX54 Metal Plates and Timber
    TX00d Doors

I'm was deciding on the use of TX36 Aged Clapboard although TX54 will suffice... But that would make it six items from the Scratchbuilders Yard, and that would be cheating !

So my plan is to extend the building, alter the walls, but present it differently to what (I'm hoping) most entries will be... I'll keep the posts coming as I progress.

    Cheers, Gary.

Thats one of the problems with printers, I'm sure the manufacturers deliberately make subsequent models to need different ink cartridges so you can't carry over your unused ones to the next. I had the same problem a few months ago when my Canon printer died and I was left with 2 boxes of spare cartridges.......Grrrrrrr! Anyway, I splashed out on a new Canon one with ink tanks instead, more expensive but at least it has a 3 year warranty so hopefully I should get my money's worth out of it.:giggle:

I know what you mean Keith ! The new printer and new inks cost $8.00 more than the inks I recently bought for my Canon !

This HP printer I bought was cheaper than the inks for the printer ! The chap behind the counter asked if I wanted to pay extra 12.5% for an extended warranty. I said "why would I pay an extra 12.5% on a printer that cost me $38.00, if it stops working in two years time, I'm better saving that money and putting it towards a new printer..." ! :whatever:

    Cheers, Gary.

    Moving right along now..,

First up, you will notice that I have opted for foam core over the traditional card. This makes it a little easier and speeds up the build.

So I had made an extension to the front and rear of the building. I have deleted the wider end wall, although that is now positioned two thirds along the length of the building. (see pics). Here I have used the 'normal' kit to form the main structure, but added a smaller, but taller section to the extension. The front and rear of the extension is identical in height, so I can keep a constant roof line.

I did make any error which was hastily revised and repaired. For some reason, the printer is not playing fair and has given me two different sized narrow end walls... You can see here that I have had to lift the stuck down print and trim the end wall back to match the opposite end wall width.

With the original sloping back wall in place, this allowed me to measure and cut a new section of wall for the extension. So judicial cutting of the sandstone sections was done to marry the sandstone wall and the brick wall into one...

Eventually, this will be weathered in so you won't see the join in either the brick join or the sandstone join.

Ok, another update should follow tonight.

    Cheers for now,

    Gary.

I started on the ceiling and roof last night. The ceiling was measured up an additional sheet was used to extend the ceiling (underside) and guttering etc. I also measured the length of the centre rib and printed out two roof/tiles sections of the kit. These were measured up using the centre line measurements, so I had the correct length that included the extension. I glued the tiles to card late last night before I hit the sack.

I got up, done the chores then proceeded onto the roof. I cut out the triangular wedges and scored the lines to allow me to fold the roof to shape. I decided to test fit the roof to the ceiling and I'm out by 10mm...!
I never anticipated the end angles shortening the overall roof length...

Never fear, I have a solution...

As the roof tiles is only a template, I have cut the roof into two, glued tabs to the underside of one section then glued this to the roof supports and ceiling. Now I lay the other end of the roof into the correct position and glue down.

Now I measure the gap and the length of each side, cut a piece of card accordingly, score, fold and glue into place. Job done.

But what about the finish you say...? :scratchchin:

No worries, that's where the corrugated sheet comes into play.

    Cheers, Gary.

Never got a lot done on the kit bash over the weekend, well not as much as I first anticipated.

Before adding details like the doors, the widow sills and windows to the building, there are quite a few other details to add to the model.

    The platform build...

    The covered unloading area...

    and some internal decking/floor...

More to come, but not tonight...

    Cheers, Gary.

Carry on from last night, I finished up the floor and retaining walls/piers for the larger part of the warehouse and added a ramp to this.

This pic below is the floor I showed last night, but in place in the warehouse. The floor boards come from Metal Plates & Timber sheet (TX54).

On the outside, I completed the platform wall and decorated it with the Aged Brown Brick (TX07) and used the Concrete Wall (TX14) as the concrete platform deck. This just gives a much better weathered effect in my opinion.

The walls and roof for the covered loading area were also constructed, using foam core and covering the outside in Aged Brown Brick and the inside I used the same painted white brick print from the TO24a kit. If you look closely at the pic, you'll see the vent on the wall... This will be covered with one of the signs that come with the kit. On the long wall, you can see the arch from the kit as I wanted to use as much of the original kit as I could.

The steps on the outside were treated the same as the steps on the inside, using the 'soldier course' of bricks on the edge of the Aged Brown Brick. Doors are added using the rear doors from the kit, but cutting them into two.

The roof on the covered loading area had a strip of black metal added to the front edge to represent the gutter, like the original kit has. I then added another layer of thin card to this then added the Aged Corrugated Iron (TX29).

I have started on the main roof with the corrugated iron and will proceed covering the lean to with the same.

    Still plenty to go....

    Cheers, Gary.

I love the fact that you have not gone for dead square. Something we tend to forget in modelling at times, all the regimental 90degree bends. This just shows how it was, additions, alterations and not always square on.. enjoying the progress.

    Thanks Toto, Thanks Andy.

I was going to do something slightly different, but I don't have the time up my sleeve to do what I really wanted to do. At the moment, I'm sure once it is settled into scenery, it will look fine.

    Cheers, Gary.

    G`day Gary,
    You`re really whizzing along there.....
The foam core is so easy to cut isn`t it.?
I think I will be using it more in the future. I`ve only made retaining walls with it so far.
Which of your layouts is going to receive the completed building.???

    Thanks Gormo.

Yes, I really like foam core. This is the last of the sheets I pulled from the trash when I was working at the cemetery ! As you say, one man's waste is another man's treasure !!

I'll be doing one of two things with this build..., either another small layout, or I'll give it away !

    Cheers, Gary.
