Trying to create a road, using Boomer Diorama technique, for a tiny diorama

    Process
(I let each layer dry before the next step)
    1) Varathaned basswood
    2) Grey rattle can
    3) Two skim coats of Golden acrylic texture paste
    4) Gentle sanding
    5) Flooded the surface with water. A few drops of Tamiya JA Grey, and Nato Black pulled back and forth with a brush
    6) Varathaned again...

Once that's dry, next will be light wet sanding, and more acrylic and lots of water, followed Varathane

Repeat as many times as looks necessary. Probably only once. But we'll see.

Once that's finished, I'll add six inches of track parallel to the road, and ballast it

Well, I overdid it with the paint, even though I used lots of water. So I sanded it back a few layers and will try again....

I have used the Boomer method on my own layout. The results are pretty good.

Couple of pics of my work...

    Concrete hard stand...

    a bitumen surface...

and this old loading platform, constructed from foamcore, textured with Golden Fiber Paste, several washes, powders and weeds...

You can read all about my method of the loading platform in my layout thread post #458 : https://platform1mrc.com/p1mrc/inde...e-palm-trees-and-a-food-industry.5350/page-23

    Cheers, Gary.

Thanks, Gary. It's the first time I've tried modelling scenery for decades. I think it's taking a little while to get a feel for the materials -- especially stuff like artists' pastes that we didn't have when I were a lad.
