Thanks Guys, Now the terraces will need a makeover, they look a bit bright / harsh to me. The original plan was to paint them in pastel colours but those colours would have to be a soft tone to suit the surrounds and of course maybe it would be just better to find a suitable brick paper and go down the route traveled before with other kits.?? I guess I can try the paint method and if that is not satisfactory, well I`ll just brick paper over it......I think I just sorted that out.!! So more thought and trials required, but for the moment I can come back to plastering the embankment and greening as I go.......moving further west all the time. http://www.clickGormo
Looks good Gormo, nice job. These may be handy to you when you move on down the line... http://www.kirtleymodels.com/index.php?p=1_6_BACKSCENES Cheers, Gary.
Thanks Chris and Gary, Gary those back scenes are for O Gauge by the look of them.....unless I`m missing something.. But thanks for the info anyway... A little bit more done today but only phone pics are available for the update. I`m just in the door from Wednesday night trivia and I won`t be venturing out to the shed tonight. Time for my Milo, pipe and slippers. I removed the bridge once more to allow me to grass this bank next to it......doesn`t look much at the moment but it will improve with time. And this taken from the right hand side of it. As with previous updates, the glue is still drying and more undergrowth and trees need to go into this section. But now the bridge can go back on and pretty much will stay on unless I have some major issue under it......but fingers crossed that won`t happen So now the big question is "what now????".......I guess keep moving west and build the lift out section behind the station would be the logical progression, however I may be overtaken by a whim of fancy and go onto something completely different.......although that would be silly......it`s happened before.......I have form......a track record so to speak, even if it is a bad pun.....but there you are..?? Railway modellers are a unique species and we are easily distracted by a nice looking boiler or a nice set of steam pipes......so we`ll see what happens.??? http://www.clickGormo

Looking forward to seeing the next area of attack Gormo. These back scenes are coming out a treat. Really very well done. Cheers Toto
Thanks Toto, Yes I`m looking forward to getting them going too.!!!.....probably into next week now before I touch it again...?? The next thing is definitely the corner behind the station. I`m still not sure how to set the town out but it will be easier to work that out as the base etc. starts coming together. As Pete mentioned, corners are tricky, but I`ve got some ideas about that and it`s all about leading your eye into the landscape behind, which takes focus away from the corner itself. The town area is raised yet it will have to drop down to the station. So with slopes included this time, the buildings are going to be more challenging. I will have to kit bash a few of them and basically add basement levels to allow them to sit on a slope. Higher at one end and lower at the other, but it will make for an interesting scene. Cheers Gormo
Thanks Ron, They have come up very nice and they will be a good reference for me. Looks like some scratch building may be the order of the day...?????.....or at least some serious mods when kit bashing.??? Very helpful... http://www.clickGormo
G`day Folks I have started the next stage of scenery by getting the base ready for the behind the station area. This has to be a light weight affair without too much support structure on the walls. I need the space to get in there.....it`s big enough but only just. So the base will only be supported by a right angled piece in the corner and the baseboards. The base sits on top of the baseboards. I made this simple support after work today. Being in the corner, it doesn`t encroach on the work space. The next stage was to measure up the area to determine the shape to be cut out. The measurements were transferred to 3mm MDF . Then we put the jigsaw to work and the shape below popped out. The long straight edge at the top is 970 mm and the one on the right is 620 mm. It`s a reasonable size to work with. Now you may be thinking Gormo has lost the plot. 3mm MDF only supported at three corners...the bloke must be mad !!!!......Not so folks....not so....I have a plan........This MDF will have 50mm thick polystyrene sheet glue to it. The process will be done on a flat surface to ensure the whole thing dries flat. The MDF then becomes a support for the polystyrene but more so, a protective skin for the underneath of the polystyrene. The polystyrene with MDF glued to it will become reasonably rigid, yet light. So you can see now the method in my madness. So here we are folks.....it fits with a little tweaking here and there.....it`s unusual to get it right first go........And that dark pit....the end of the world....the abyss .....has now disappeared from view. But yes I now need to plan the town layout especially considering rise and fall etc....so I won`t blindly rush into it, but contemplate it for a wee while......all suggestions welcome.. http://www.clickGormo ____________________ Videos
Hi Gormo, when you glue the polystyrene to the MDF, make sure you weigh it down well and leave it to dry for a good length of time, I would hate to see you have the same problem that I had with the MDF warping on my Wheeldon building. You have great area to work with, looking forward to seeing how you get on . Cheer's, Pete.
Thanks for the input fellas, Pete I have some weights and actually the MDF is laying flat under them now. Your concerns are well founded and I think some bracing would be a wiser way forward. Strips of ply to form a simple arrangement on top of the board then overlaid with polystyrene should do the trick. http://www.clickGormo.
Any further thoughts on the nature of the build / structures yet ? Maybe a pub and a couple of B & B's. Toto
Some Toto, I have a pub kit and quite a few other shops, houses etc. so no shortage of material there, but it`s just a matter of planning out where to place them. I`ve always rather fancied the layout of the town on Wellingford and Bakewell Bridge layout, so I may go some way towards replicating that idea....especially with the pub near the station.!!! Check the link below at about 30 seconds into the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rm0IZTIs220 http://www.clickGormo
The first thing will have to be the roadway and station front, without that in place passengers can't logically access the station. After that I think the world's end or the Wellingford videos have some great inspiration for you. Interestingly for me Gormo I want to do the area behind my Station , so I'll be stealing ideas off you.
