    OK Paul,

I`ve downloaded the castle........it`s a big kit....24 pages and then there`s the instructions. It will take some time to assess it and if it doesn`t go up behind the station it will get planted in full at either Bamford or Little Bardfield.

In the meantime I`ve started putting sills and lintels in the terraces. It half way there at the moment.

Also here`s some little updates on minor changes and additions to the railway.

A loading gauge has been fitted in the goods area.

I got another good used little tanker from my local hobby shop the other day.

And this brake van came with the Victorian S Class set I acquired some time back. The loco was eventually sold on and I`ve kept the wagons. The brake van has been seconded to the break down train. For the moment I`ve got rid of the old couplings.......you can see how chunky they were.

And I`ve replaced them with Bachmann screw on couplings with a short shank. The old couplings were riveted in place rather than screwed in, so the rivets had to be drilled out.

This brake van is also in the queue for a paint job. I`ll probably do it GWR brown and add some appropriate transfers etc.

Now talking of paint jobs...?????.....does anybody know how to get the roof off these wagons. I assume it`s a press fit, however I don`t want to force it without the right information just in case it`s glued on.

There seems to be a bit off play around the edges so I`m assuming it`s not glued.????:scratchchin:

    Any advice would be appreciated.

:avatar::gday: if memory serves me right the entire roof and windows are all one piece and you need to gently press the windows in and pull the roof straight up. I had a couple a few years back and they were similar to, I believe, LBSCR and the NE but not the GWR unless some of the lesser lines that were absorbed by the 1923 grouping had one but I have never seen any evidence of this but they are a nice model anyway.

    Thanks Norm,

Now I would never of thought of pressing the windows in to release the roof.

    Thanks for the tip...

    I agree with Norm.

I believe those old Hornby (Australian Edition) guards vans are worth a few pennies now as they are getting harder to find...

    Thanks Gary,

Well they may be getting rare but I`m afraid I`m getting ruthless and will adapt it to suit :avatar::avatar:

As SWMBO has said in the past with absolute confidence and down right common sense " It`s only a piece of plastic ".....:avatar::avatar::avatar::avatar:

:avatar::gday:Gormo, if I remember correctly I used micro strip to panel the sides of my brake van and painted it GWR choc & cream and I used to run it with the Hornby 4whl coaches. I'll look to see if I can find it and post a couple of pics for you. Finding it is the big problem.

    G`day Folks,

Managed to press on a bit more with the build of the Metcalfe terraces.

All windows, doors, glazing, lintels and sills are in with curtains and blinds as well. The residence with no curtains or blinds showing has interior scenes fixed to the back walls.

Then moved onto fitting the roof and then added slate strips

The end cottage is a heritage building with historical significance as Brunel and his father lived there.

It was then time for a visual check. I am testing it with a street scene from Saffron Walden. This is one of my own photographs which has been toyed with and made into a street scene, however I only need to use the part you can see, I think.??? The up-ended station kiosk is there just to keep it in place.

I think it will work but I may even place something taller behind that row of cottages.???

Next up I re-skinned the chimneys with some Scalescenes brick paper but I am using the original chimney tops from the kit.

Next job was to turn down some rivets and paint them up as chimney pots. I`ve also prepared a length of umbrella strut to be used as guttering.

And finally ......added the ridge capping.

This kit was supposed to have skylights in the roof and also dormers and also bay windows down at ground level. I have taken the decision to keep these cottages simple and I am trying to suggest they have some considerable age. The lack of the above accessories helps to suggest this I think.???

So there we are folks.....we`re down to the final stretch ....I just have to make some down pipes and possibly add the base from the kit, although it will be modified, in that, it will have it`s depth decreased.

    More as it happens.

    Thanks Toto, Steve and Ian,

The building is complete now and planted. I have done a road surface in front of it. The little back scene overlay of pastel houses and street scene is fixed in place and a small stone wall with ramp has been added as well.

No pics at the moment but they will follow with further posts.

    Thanks Gary,

    Some pics as promised.

Building planted with road down, backscene in and a raised area to the right under development.

Chimney pots, guttering and down pipes are fitted as well.

I`ve also added a stone wall in front of the terraces all the way back to the station road bridge.

The area between the houses and the bridge needs some trees and shrubs now to give a visual block between the terraces and the backscene.

All in good time....I think I will have to make a tree or two to achieve the look I want. I tried a Chinese import tree today but it just doesn`t look right.

The stone wall is polystyrene which has been done before on the railway. The wall is about 30 inches long and was easy to make and fit.

More as it happens.....time to hit the sack!!!!

    Nicely done!
On an aside with the Chinese import trees I have been experimenting with one of your favourite products (cheap hairspray) and various colours of fine turf scatter material to improve the look of these trees. I will try to put up some pictures soon but it is worth a go, the trees are so cheap and it does improve the appearance of them somewhat.
