Heljan class 37 with ESU XL & 11W SPEAKER -Legomanbiffo sound files.DAPOL 08 with Zimo & Hi base speaker - Paul Chetter sound files.
All in good time Ron. There's a growing list of figures I need to order and an even bigger list of rolling stock waiting to be detailed and weathered.
Brilliant video Kim, your 08 made me jealous, I've still to fit my sound chip, and the 37 is awesome! I need to do a couple of jobs on my 08, solder in the stay alive and fit crew, I have glued the arms on to a couple of Slaters figures once it's set I will get them painted and put in the cab, I don't want to get into Ron's bad book . Cheer's, Pete.
Fantastic sound files. Especially legomanbiffo 37. the video is first class. Did you use a tripod to get the panning so smooth ? I'd like a sound setup for my 55 from legomanbiffo but set up in the configuration as the one he had at the Glasgow show. It is by far one of the best sounds I've heard. It was actually a bit frightening as to how real it sounded. It's on my list. Cheers Toto
Thanks Pete, are you using the same sound files on your 08?[/*] Thanks Toto, look forward to seeing your install. I've not used the decoder you have before. Yes the trusty tripod was used[/*] Yes I heard and saw a c;ass 55 from Legomanbiffo on a UK visit last year, shame it was only on a short plank as it would have been nice to hear the thrash.[/*] Ron, order for figures placed [/*]
Hi Kim, its Paul Chetters ProtoDive version 2, there are so many sound effects on it and swoppable drive effects it will take me a month of Sundays to work them all out. Cheers, Pete
Hi Kimbo, what is the story with the hi bass speaker in the 08. Do you reckon it's superior to the sugar cube ? Where did you get yours ? It did sound very solid but I've never heard it side by side with the sugar cube so difficult to say. I take it that's it's more expensive ? Cheers Toto
Hi Toto, The best way to demonstrate the differences is with this video clip from Laurie who does some great clips on YouTube https://youtu.be/N3B__iNYyNU I'm of the opinion with sound installs, fit the biggest speaker, or speakers that you can. You can easily turn down the volume if it to much. Some installs are better with two small speakers back to back. I normally stock up with several types and sizes. Most of my speakers now come from YouChoos. http://www.youchoos.co.uk/Index-Shop.php?L1=Speakers Kim
Hi Kimbo. I know that the non sound decoder installation on the Dapol class 08 was really easy. Does the sound decoder just plug in the same way? Also I am assuming the whole she'll has to come off to enable the speaker to be fitted which I would think will be in the front end under the bonnet? Cheers Toto
Hi Toto, Re plugging in a sound decoder, yes just the normal 21 pin plug in, how ever there is an issue with some 21 pin decoders not been able to operate all the lighting effects correctly. The other issue is the socket for the 21 pin seems to be the wrong way round so it does not sit nice and flat on the Dapol circuit board. Dapol have responded saying that the decoders must have the correct amount of functions. See following. https://www.dapol.co.uk/index.php?route=blog/post&post_id=22 My Zimo 8 pin decoder will be hard wired as at the moment it does not work the lights correctly. (Fitted with a 21-8 pin adaptor). Re speaker install. Depending on the speaker used, you can just unscrew the Dapol circuit board, move it to one side carefully, which then allows better access to the front grill to mount the speaker behind, or take the whole body off if the speaker is large. Paul Chetter did an article about these problems and fitting a large speaker in model rail magazine a few months back...can't access my copy just yet as I'm still away... cab can also be removed to install a crew, I have a picture of this back at base. Kim
Hi Kimbo, Thanks for that. I could also look at installing the sound version in my sencheung version. It would be a hard wire but may work out better in the long run. I'll have a look at the Dapol install first though. Cheers Toto
