Some of you may remember Hingstone from YMRC. Well, the story so far. A few weeks ago I stripped the baseboard bare and started again as I wasn't really happy with it. It will remain a straight line in and out, no points and a simple terminus as in Gunnislake on the Real Thing but the station is being moved to the rear of the board as opposed to the front. I have also added an end backboard and main backboard which at the moment contains a plain sky backing paper. Progress however is slow, as some of you may remember that I spend a lot of time out and about with the camera. Will try and get something done over the holiday and report back later with some pics. I also need to build another board which will contain about an extra foot in length for the scenic bit and a two foot or so fiddle yard. More of that later.
Hi Bittern, A huge welcome aboard. It's great to have you here and I look forward to seeing your plank maturing. Find your feet and get settled in. I'll also look forward to seeing some of your terrific photography as the journey continues. Really pleased to have you here. Cheers Toto

We also have an Other Hobbies section for nature photos etc. Down in the 'Off Topic area' , Bottom of the home page ( No Toto I said nature, that doesn't mean holiday snaps of you rolling in the snow in Poland after a night on the brandy ! ) Once again welcome aboard mate Cheers Matt
I realised that when the second baseboard is built I will need to find something to carry power over the joint which was easy to seperate when the boards were split. I found the answer in Maplins. It is a lockable 2 pin plug and socket system designed for Remote Control Cars. They are Race Pk Lead Female (JG05) and Race Pk Lead Male (JG04). They were about £3.75 each and once clipped together are very firm. You have to push down a small lever to seperate them and they come fitted with a bout a 5 or 6 inch red and black wire attached. Might be worth looking on Maplins Website to check them out.
Hi Bittern Those connectors known in the R/C car world as Tamiya Connectors, are ok but did tend to melt. The preferred connector are Deans Type connectors http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-x-PAIRS-Deans-T-Plug-Gold-RC-Connectors-/262109207767?hash=item3d06ed1cd7:g:X~8AAOSwstxVAMS3 They will handle far higher currents very secure and cheaper. The other popular type are Anderson Powerpoles http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10-X-ANDERSON-POWERPOLE-30AMP-ELECTRICAL-CONNECTOR-PLUG-GOLF-TROLLEY-KIT-CAR-/141331111915?hash=item20e7fd9feb:m:m7skRgmMp59njmNJ13MBHdw I use the Deans connectors between boards for the Track bus, Accessory bus, 16V AC etc etc. The female connector has the live side, the male being plugged into the live socket. Thanks for the alternatives Paul but I'll stick with what I have, after all one loco on a metre or so of straight track shouldn't tax them too much. If it does there is something seriously wrong with the loco
Hi bittern , Firstly I've passed the link to your Flikr photos on to Toto, We are setting up a dedicated Links page so members can link in any interesting sites they know of and yours is one I would like to see on it ! If you would rather not have it on there Just drop Toto a PM or if you have any other links you would Like included then likewise drop him a Pm with the Links ( This goes for any other interested Members as well and I'm sure Tom will pin up a notice once its organised Inviting partisipants to send Him links , feel free to jump the gun and get em in early ) Back to your layout mate, Is it OO and DC ? I know on another thread you were detailing some old locos you had refurbished so i'm guessing OO and DC. watching with interest ! Cheers Matt
Hi Matt. Thanks for the likes on Flickr. Yes by all means pop up the link. In fact on the other Forum it is part of my signature so can add it there as well. I also have a website that deals mainly in Natural History. The link to that I will add at the end. Hingstone. That is going to be OO and will be DC. Pointlesss using DCC on a short straight length of track with no points. The same goes for Trevennan as well, when I ever get round to finish it off. Website URL is http://www.dcminerals.co.uk
Both excellent sites ! I'm sure Tom will be pleased to add them into our links page once its done. I see your point on DCC it would cost a small fortune to chip all those old locos for such a short run I'm staying DC on my layout for the same reason Cheers Matt
Hiya Pete, I use the bookmark system built into the internet browser ? in Firefox its a small empty star in the right hand corner of the URL box, click on it and it adds a bookmark of the page you are on so go to bitterns page in your browser and then bookmark it. You can then look in your bookmarks later to find it and visit. Unlike looking for it in history where it can be hard to find if it was months ago you visited it. As for a Topic if you tick the box at the bottom of the reply box it will send you an email when someone replies to that Topic. You can also click the watch Topic button right at the bottom of the page , on the left hand side but beware you can get swamped with emails if you tick too many boxes in popular posts BUT you can go into your profile and change the option to daily digest so you only get ONE email aday Shout if you need a bit more info mate Cheers Matt
