I know its a bit of a late attempt but like Paul_l I'm going to give it my best shot.

Back in the day, not all time expired locos were totally cut up for scrap. Some had their boilers re -purposed as steam supply for industry and heating. What I'm attempting to build is a steam powered saw mill using as much as I can find knocking about in my shed. It won't be a super detailed diorama, more a hint at such a workshop.
Anyway I have made a start on the loco boiler using a cut down loo roll and card for the fire box. Still loads to do so I hope you all will be patient .

A bit crude but it will, hopefully look better once painted and weathered.

    Cheer's, Pete.

    Go for it Pete.

I've seen a few examples of this kind of use and they make interesting subjects. Another involved build thrown into the mix.

    Best of luck.

Not done much over the last few days but this evening I made myself go in the shed and do some more work.
Anyway I decided to have a start on the actual circular saw.First up I had to find a candidate for the blade itself. Furtuling about in my (this might come in for summink one day) spares box I found a round black disc out of an old printer, no teeth on it but the 3 ft rule will apply here. I cut the parts for the saw bench from mount board and glued the carcass together less the top a photo of which is resting on the saw blade.

    IMG_1988.JPG

    The base for the bench.

    IMG_1989.JPG

    Top loose fitted.

    IMG_1991.JPG

The drive system using plastic gears from the old printer with bracket made from card, it will need a second one making tomorrow.

Thats it for now. I have to look at how to make a steam engine and some line shafting now as well as making the building to house it all.

    Cheer's for now, Pete.

Had another session on the build over the last couple of days, still loads to do but anyway here is the point I'm at now.
First up, I've made a start on the steam engine, the frame for the engine is made from plasticard, I've layered up the crank bearing pivot ready for drilling, and made a base for the engine to sit on. Using a plastic bottle for the cylinder with a cut down marker pen lid to represent the slide for the piston cross head.

The boiler has had some attention. I found some old castings from old kits that I deemed weren't good enough but like all good modellers, I didn't throw away. A steam dome and chimney from an old Gateneal kit. I added a valve to the dome for the supply to the shed and I found an old smokebox door I bought ages ago from a toy fair/swap meet. When I'm happy with the boiler I will paint and fix it to some brick supports made with foam board and brick paper.

More done but I don't think I'm going to be able to finish in time but I will keep going to the line!!!

    The chimney extension in place.
    IMG_2002.JPG
The saw bench painted but not quite finished.
    IMG_2009.JPG
    The steam engine.
    IMG_2008.JPG
The boiler/steam plant, I would like to weather it a bit before planting it.
    IMG_2010.JPG
Finally, the building to house the engine and saw. It is only a half depth. Hopefully I will get the roof on but it may be a unfinished depends on how I get on tonight.

    Cheer's mate
Unfortunately I am not going to be able to complete it in time so I will put it forward as is.
I have managed to build the boiler shed/lean to but still need to fix the boiler in place. The window frames are in and painted, I think I may glaze them with PVA.

Well that's it. I will do more work to build the line shafting and piping etc, after I have done some more work on my layout and loco builds.

    Cheer's, Pete.
