About a month ago, Model Railroader had a special on Kalmbach books. I don't have any modelling books about modelling US railways (railroads...), and the 'monthly special' had Kalmbach books for sale at only $10.99 USD each, normally twice that in the US ($21.99) and between $40.00 and $45.00 each in Oz ! I decided to splash out and buy five books. These books are a run in a series named 'Model Railroader Guide To Industries'. The books I purchased are as follows : Milk Trains & Traffic Livestock & Meatpacking Produce Traffic & Trains The Model Railroaders Guide To Grain Industries Along The Tracks. Plenty of great photos, both early black and white to modern colour. Also some excellent diagrams showing how everything worked from factories, mills, abattoir and quarries to the rail head rail and also the associated wagons used in traffic. Just wished I had these books earlier as they would have accompanied my US layout nicely. ...and no, I ain't going to be starting again on the layout ! Cheers, Gary.
Great looking books Gary. I purchased a UK set called “Moving the goods,” similar to these. Very useful books with lots of information and photos
