Now, there is a plan....., careful tho', too big a gold stripe, and a heavy front end shunt and it'll pass for a 66. It'll still be faster than a 66 tho'. Paul
What about the new Dapol A4, in Silver (Silver Link) includes lights, Sound a new fan design for smoke and only £399 ! Cheers Ron
At that price, I think I'll pass - not even santa would let me sqeeze that on the list :xmas-wave: Paul
At least I can say I would be too big for Viccy Rd, so I'll stick to Black 5's, B1's, but do need J36, J37 & J39's, a Caley tank 439 class I think and maybe a C16 would go down nicely for my early period, later period (green deisel), I already have 4 x DMU, 08, 20, 24 & 26 just the 26 & DMU's requiring sound. Paul
I must admit that my sweetest running loco ever is my Hornby J15! Also available in BR black, really good loco!! Cheers Ron
The best is a King, hands down, it was so great it didn't really need any streamlining. And let's face it, the Black 5 is only a Hall with a dome. But I must admit I do like some of the LMS locos and one day I will get myself a Duchess.
Quite simple really. I spent my childhood in Exeter and saw them most days. The first time I saw an A4 was when I was stationed at Catterick during my Army career. I liked them. Another reason is I love birds so a loco with a name like Bittern was a sure thing. I used to use Mineral names for Avatar's but I don't think many people will know what Cuprosklodovskite was. ( A uranium/copper secondary)
OK, I'll let you off! Also a birder and I have seen more Bitterns this year than ever before and Little Egrets, they both seem to have had a good breeding year! Cheers Ron
We have loads of Little Egrets on the Plym Estuary. A few years ago if you saw one it was a rarity, nowadays it's a case of 'Oh No, not another Little Egret'. I'll be putting some bird pics over the Xmas break so that should interest you too. The best sight I've had this winter has been a flock of about 150 Avocet in flight on the River Tamar. Will include a pic of them as well.
I would have probably chosen Copper or Iron Pyrities - Fools Gold, nearest I'll ever get to a big chunk of gold. There's just something about a Stanier Loco that sets them apart from thier GWR step sisters, not just the green paint. Maybe its the tender, they just look more modern and and complete than the GWR equivalents. Stands back and puts on flack jacket Paul
