I'm currently constructing the signal box for my Maron Station & Engine shed layout. This was originally a scratch built signal box my Dad made for the loft layout he made for my Sister, brother and I. I started by repair some of the window frames and stair well elements that had broken off. I then painted it to fit in with the colour scheme used on the station & line side buildings in the Thomas the Tank Engine TV series.

Next, I moved onto constructing the signal box interior. The levers were made from a section of old 00 gauge plastic fencing. I scored then bent 2 of the levers to simulate activation of a point & signal.

The signal levers were mounted onto 2mm thick card, which I scored to create a floor board effect, this was painted matt earth brown and will later be given a coat of gloss varnish. The levers were also painted appropriately.

The finished interior with a coal burning stove stretch built form some Airfix sprues and other scratch built elements. The whole assembly was then sprayed with a coat of acrylic gloss varnish. I also created a signal box plan and clock to attach to the interior walls of the signal box.

Signal box fully assembled. I have fitted some working LED lights, just need to do some final touching up and weathering. I'll do that when I weather my other buildings on the layout.

It looks excellent all lit up. The interior looks the business as well. Good use of the scratch building materials. I admire the vision some folks have when utilising odds and ends and coming up with very convincing builds. Real modelling.

    Cheers

Thanks Toto. I agree, the lighting does look good. My children won a set of battery operated led Christmas lights at a school tombola.... the string of LEDs are just about long enough to light up the signal box, station building and the goods loading building. These run under the baseboard.

 They had forgotten about them, I filed the lights away in my 'Dad's useful tin', which contains lots of modelling odds and ends.
